it might be helpful to have some kind of guide on how to:
* disable files at various sites
* shut down entire portfolio at various sites
they are all different and it's even more time consuming to disable a file at some of them than it is to upload.
I am ditching all the small players and it's proving to be quite painful.
anyone got any easy advice for:
Cutcaster, Canstock, Veer, Stockami, Pond5 etc....
-
CanStockPhoto and P5, just email them, and they will close your account. Just make sure you tell them to delete all images from the server. Bigstock kept all my images on their server without telling me. Shocking behavior.
-
yes, it's interesting how difficult it is to disable files or remove the portfolio, zero info on this!
Bigstock: you have you go through and save the file # and then email them a list to be disabled.
how ridiculous and time consuming for us both! i'm $2 off my $30 payout so i thought I wait to get it rather than let them have it. so i am disabling about a dozen files. what a giant PITA

again, there's no easy way, you have to email support with file id#.
So again, i just requested to close the entire account, seemed easier than wading through my port to cherry pick out a dozen images.
These smaller players are so silly, making life harder for us for such little return makes us turn our backs on them completely. at least at iS, DT, SS and 123 I can easily delete a single file. (i'm using the word "easily" very loosely as you do have to do searches, but once you're in the groove it's about 30 seconds per image)
-
On Deposit you cant even delete files, you can only disable them. Thats the most ridiculous I have seen so far.

I had started a list with links to right page on all the sites. I don't have it on this computer though... I'll post it here soon.
-
Here's what I've gathered.. I'll have to put it in a more accessible place in the future.. or a more visible place.

CutCaster was easy - just an email. I never sold anything there or I would have stayed.
PhotoDune was a major PITA. They wouldn't just pay me the balance they owed me - they said I had to wait a year and then request it. That's right, an entire year, then knock on the back door and ask politiely for your money. Which I did, and they eventually paid me. Don't recall if I had to say "please" or "Simon says".

the3dstudio:
I was told by them to use the "delete" with each image under "Edit Products"
-
On ShutterStock you can also do it from the Catalog Manager
Just double click the file to edit or delete.

yes, they are pretty good (no surprises there, right?). I'm not taking much off SS though. I'm finding it easier to just delete my whole port on other sites, rather than muck around copying and pasting image numbers in an email, and then having to check that it's actually been done.
-
thanks Tyler. We should also add in who pays out the balance, and how painful that is.
crestock were good and have offered me my princely payout of $8.xx
custcaster made no mention of it, very terse "it's done" email.

Stock imagery is long-term project and you should choose your partners very carefully before jumping into bed (i.e. handing over your valuable portfolio) with them.
This thread reads like it's from a dating site where folk are asking how to most easily ditch the latest irksome date they've just met. That's not professional and it's not good business.

My experience with Crestock was hilarious, luckily I had too few images with them to care and I guess the feeling was mutual. I was only making an enquiry, I hadn't made a decision but they were all too keen to get rid of my images, or was it me ::). Here's my email communication with them.
Me: If I want to take my images off Crestock, is the only way of doing this by
closing my account?
CS: This email is to confirm that the images which were formerly active in your portfolio have now been removed. I can leave your account active, or close it if you wish. Let me know what you prefer and I will take care of it for you.
Me: Close the account. Thank you.
I didn't ask for the money, nor did they send it, but it was a tiny amount, maybe $2 or $3.

does it? even though i'm not the type to go on a dating site (been married 13 years now FYI) and don't consider myself frivolous. I tried out a few other sites when I first started, when I was enthusiastic and positive (ha! before coming here). Now i'm "wiser" I am able to make decisions based on my experiences, I've made a business decision to stop wasting my time on these low performing sites.
I didn't realise professional meant you can't try, fail or learn (someone should send Richard Branson a memo). I will certainly have setbacks and failures again in the future. I'm ok with that.
