Title: How was your February sales?
Post by: Karen on March 07, 2016, 11:22
My February photos sales were really low across all sites.
iStock especially plummeted like a stone  :(
Only small improvement in videos  ;)

February has always been a slow month for me across the board. My stock sales always seem to take a dive at this time of the year.
Half way through the first quarter seems like a "twilight" time for those controlling the purse strings.
I do VFX for commercial projects in the ad industry and February is always a slump month in this biz. I wouldn't worry about it too much.  :)

By my modest standards a pretty average month with nothing especially great but no big falls either  sounds like I should be reasonably grateful.....on the other hand March has got off to a very slow start.....early days though so we will see.

decent end sprint made February a normal month, but I am not seeing any increase, just sustaining my earnings

Up 3% on January 2016, down 24% from February 2015.  Year on year downward trend accelerating.

Yeah, I  know, its because my port is crap, I haven't kept up with the times, don't have proper niche, am a doom and gloom complainer, etc.  I've read all the insults before.  Because there is NO way this could be an industry wide phenomenon.   ::)

26% up on January and 351% up on last February. I've been busy though, making new content.

but with 750 photos on ss you can make 1800 dollar per month, you just need access to a lot of nude models

My February statistic: http://microstockinfos.blogspot.com/2016/03/stock-photography-sales-statistic.html (http://microstockinfos.blogspot.com/2016/03/stock-photography-sales-statistic.html)

30% down compared to last month, but 16% up compared to last year February. I just can't recover from the huge drop with Shutterstock in 2014.

BME for Shutterstock & Fotolia.

Shutterstock - Jan 2016 to Feb 2016 - 22% increase.
Fotolia -  Jan 2016 to Feb 2016 - 58% increase.

Valentine's Day showed me a lot of love.

Alamy and DT were strong and SS was the worst it's been in a very long time. Weird month, though I've seen a steady uptick on Alamy which I like since sales there are higher value so an uptick can be significant. FT was steady but with a very small port (<100 files), too few sales there to see any trends other than that sales are much better since Adobe took over.

There seems to be a lot of volatility right now. It will be interesting to see which sites are on top a year from now. I'm encouraged that Alamy, which pays a fair commission and charges more for most licenses, is moving up. I hope that's a harbinger of things to come and not just a one-month anomaly.

I still feel that SS is strong as a company and am considering applying to Offset. I'd be interested to know how people are doing there, but can't seem to find much information.

Are you serious? :) I think even tomatoes sell better than nude models on SS. Who would buys that stuff there? :)
