Title: how you decide to put a photo as RF or RM
Post by: mtkang on September 08, 2010, 09:56
Hi all,

I would like to know what your view about deciding a photo as RF or RM license..

for my understanding,

RF license is one time payment and buyer can use it in many area but the limitation is the image can't be exclusive and can't be tracked of history.

RM license is paid higher price and the price is decided by how long the time, or how it is to be used. The advantage for buyers of RM is the history of usage can be tracked and buyer can have exclusive use of image if they want.

my question is how you decide to make one image RF or RM?

if a texture like brickwall or grass field, guess there is no argument it will go to RF.

editorial go to RM.

how about landscape? street shot? usually what kind of image a buyers are looking for in RM?

how about what kind of buyer in RM and RF market?

to my understand, the RF buyer is graphic designer for flyer..website designer.

so at what situation, a buyer will need to source for an RM image? a commercial advertisement that want exclusive image? a book cover?

anyone can give some advise what kind of situation a buyer will look for RM image?

I don't know if this is a good strategy or not, but this is what I do:
- recognizable places, even landscapes, I set as RM
- special plants and animals, I set as RM
- generic images, I set as RF

If you are doing illustrations...if they look more clpartiiish, like the ones
on the micros, then RF is best.
If they are conceptual, more on the fine art side, then RM it is.

First thing I think is out of date and stale. Do people still own or use a Palm with a stylus? :D

RF and see what madelaide wrote, I do pretty much the same. Generic is RF anything with substance or a specific place or subject is RM. I have some concept shots RF but mostly news and editorial are RM, and I've never had a RF Editorial shot, it's seems contrary to logic?
