... and I'm pretty excited. It took months of effort but I learned a lot about shooting and editing. I also learned its near impossible to make any real money doing this but at least its fun.

Improving my shooting and editing skills was a good part.

Welcome to the addiction!
Your journey is just beginning...never in a million years did I think when I started in 2005 that I would still be doing this now. And still enjoying it!

that's a long stock career, did you ever branch out into video? i've uploaded a few dozen and haven't sold a single one so not sure what the secret is there. do older images that sold well still sell after a decade or do they fall off after a while?

Yes, I am trying very hard to do more videos. Only have 1500 at the moment.
If you do video, I can only recommend to also do editorial. I started much too late with that and missed out on a lot of money.
On pond5 there is thread where people share their latest sales. There is a lot of editorial there.
And please also occasionally share your sales as well. Not any bestsellers, but try to give back.
I took a ten year break from stock, now I am back to uploading. It will take years to get back to a full time income, but unlike all the doom and gloom here I see so many gaping holes in the agency collections, especially also with editorial, so I am optimistic to make it work.
