Title: I was given 10.000 videos lol
Post by: Osuchi on July 23, 2022, 18:50
I have friends that work in the artificial intelligence field, they record thousands of videos and images so that they can train the A.I to recognize things on it's own.
Today I saw the folder of one of my friends and suggested them that they should upload it to microstock websites, they weren't interested, thought it was too much of a hassle and told me "You can do it if you want".
So now I have a folder containing 10.000 videos, most of them being 1920x1080 (Some are 4k) lol. (Example of what the videos look like: https://stock.adobe.com/video/large-crocodile-lies-in-the-water-panorama-over-the-body-of-a-crocodile-panning-shot-of-an-alligator-laying-in-the-swamps-alligator-is-a-large-crocodile-in-the-water/209268716?prev_url=detail (https://stock.adobe.com/video/large-crocodile-lies-in-the-water-panorama-over-the-body-of-a-crocodile-panning-shot-of-an-alligator-laying-in-the-swamps-alligator-is-a-large-crocodile-in-the-water/209268716?prev_url=detail))

Seems like the main website that I will be using is adobe stock, shutterstock only allows 100 videos a week so it will take me years to upload everything, my 123rf submissions are still stuck on 'Pending' for about a month now, and from what I read here the other websites have very low sales, so it's not even worth uploading there.

So the question is... How much you think I'm going to be making? I know the industry isn't like what it once was, but I except atleast a couple hundred dollars every month, since the videos sells better than photos.

The reason why I'm writing this thread is because I started uploading 2 weeks ago, I have around 5000 videos in the portfolio and I made a grand total of:

So my exciting is turning to disappointment, anyone with experience here can tell me if it gets better??
Thank you!

I can’t help you with an estimation of potential sales - but i do hope you have a legal document giving you the rights to the videos.

When the footage is made for feeding AI's, I guess aesthetics were not really taken into account.
But 10.000 different subjects is a lot, and I would say chances are fair some of them will start selling very regularly.
Also: 2 weeks is nothing. Give it time.

If you want to make it completely effortless: why not contact a distributor, and ask them to do the keywording and uploading for you?
With that volume, you might be able to cut a deal with them to skip the regular uploading process via their interfaces, and provide them the footage directly.

One thing to remember is that it takes time for customers to find the clips, bookmark them and then when their projects are realized they buy. I always think it takes saround 18 months before a series takes off.

Also if you upload all the clips all at once they are only visible very briefly in best match or newest searches and then get drowned out by new content.

If I had access to 10k clips I would spread them out over several years and mix them into my regular work.

my goal is to get customers to bookmark me as a resource and for this I need to have a regular flow of new content.

If you add 100 clips a week, it can last 2 years, if it is 50 4 years. So personally i would probably upload 50 of my own and 50 from the stash every week.

You can also try different approaches on different agencies, one where you upload slowly over time another where you upload everything at once..

Good luck and congrats on the gift of a lifetime.

A couple of weeks isn't enough time to come to any conclusions.
