Do the keywords we supply for our images get indexed by Google,  or does Google just look at title and description?   Or is the answer to that question unknowable?

I'd imagine, without any firm knowledge, that that will vary between the agencies.

One clue might be to Google your name followed by a keyword that's not used in any titles or description.
If I Google my name followed by a keyword I use a lot (like ingredient, or nobody) I get a bunch of returns in Google Images.

I wouldn't necessarily expect description to be Googlable, e.g. Alamy description field (as distinct from the caption field), nor probably iS.

google daily crawls my global symbiostock database pages, using keywords from the images - it cycles thru the 8000 different keywords used by sym sites about every 4 weeks.

each of those searches will contain links to dozens - hundreds of sym site images that would also be visited.  don't know whether those images then get indexed

Some claim that Google will only index words that it finds in the content, in text made up of syntactically complete sentences.  And that Google ignores anything like a list of keywords.

There are a lot of theories but Google says - Googlebot processes each of the pages it crawls to compile a massive index of all the words it sees and their location on each page. When a user searches google the index returns the most relevant matching pages. Relevancy is determined by over 200 factors, one of which is the Page Rank for a given page. PageRank is the measure of the importance of a page based on the incoming links from other pages. In simple terms, each link to a page on your site from another site adds to your site's Page Rank, i.e, how many other links go in and out of each page boosts the importance of that page.

That is why all the micro sites are pushing social media. The more visitors, the higher page rank, the higher up in google searches.

I sure it will vary but for SS I know it finds descriptions. Especially for my Editorial Images on SS. Maybe someone can do some searches and present a theory of what Google finds at which agencies?

Since Alamy doesn't search it's own Descriptions anymore, I wonder if they are available for Google? Just for fun I searched Google Images for "BHZ" and didn't hit the Alamy game?  :)

Excellent question though.
