Title: Images created in Painter
Post by: cathyslife on January 02, 2010, 13:58
Is anyone here currently selling images that have been created in Painter on any of the micro sites? Does anyone know what sites will or won't take them? Which site might be the best for uploading to (if they are accepted)? I am certain I have seen contributors upload photos of their own paintings on IS, but thought some here might have actual experience with this.

Not recent experience, but everywhere except IS took them and they generally would sell quite well. IS has a very uneasy relationship with raster illustrations and after too many "not suitable for stock" rejections, I just decided not to fight it.

One of the rejections of a Painter created piece said that it was a great compsoition, but I should do it in the real world and photograph it rather than doing it digitally.

For a long time one of my Painter creations was my SS best seller...

Thanks for the info, Jo. This might be an avenue I explore...I think Painter is an incredible program. I suspected IS might be the monkey wrench in the works.

This is another reason why I can't go exclusive with any one site: lack of creative freedom. As one one who produces mostly raster illustrations, I would not want to be confined to iStock's (or any other micro site's) narrow aesthetic.

It is a tad ridiculous that if you're an exclusive photographer there you can't do anything you like with your raster illustrations, even if iStock wouldn't want them or they wouldn't sell well there. Just like vectors, if you're an iStock photo exclusive.

You could sell them as RM.

Of course, or as prints, but that may not be what 'one' wants to do.

Good point.
