Hello:

Some of my photos on 500px are now on sale via Getty images following the sale of 500px last summer.   Anyone here in the same situation and has actually sold under that scheme?  Worth adding to my portfolio on 500px ?

Here is some reading for you:

Thanks.  I went through that post only one poster reports a few sales without much details. I am still wondering... And the funny thing is I tried to join Getty and go an Istock account, although Getty picked about half of my images on 500px.

As I understand it from 500px, the fact they say a photo is Licensed does not necessarily mean it is on sale with either Getty or China Group, just available to them if they so choose, while 500px themselves are clearly not selling anything anymore either.....

Out of interest, does anybody KNOW that 500px have got any of their images actually on Getty and/or China Group? If so, then how please?

Are sales reported on 500px or where? Sales from images, that are on getty.

You'll find them via google (your 500px name + getty images).
Mine do actually show up on Getty.

Sales are a different thing though. They seem to report sales months after the fact. The last few I had reported showed the text "our distributor sold a License of..."
No information on who was the distributor.

Glad I saw this discussion. I am late to the party but...

I certainly need to check my email - I just found about 30 of mine from 500px on Getty (they show up under my name when I search on Getty and don't show 500px - I like the prices too, before discounts, and then distributor cut for 500pix).
EDIT: Found it - from August LOL! And a new one from earlier this month with links to the new interface.

Do you get sales reports from 500px or from Getty? And can you add to your photos on 500px for consideration by Getty? Anyone know how it works?
EDIT: It looks like they are reported as distributor sales via 500px. And you can add more for consideration, although the interface is inelegant at best. I had trouble finding info on the site's navigation and had to use links from the email.

So, I answered my own questions. They are distributing via Getty. Worth leaving those they've chosen there if I can get a percentage of a $499 license - or even a discounted $450 license - or $50-375 for smaller images - on occasion. I think that distributor images rank well on the large sites so it's a positive development, IMHO.

Getty's keywords are awful. I have 17 on there from Cape Cod and only two have the keyword "Cape Cod" which means I'm unlikely to get many sales. Crazy! There's a fall image that has sold recently on Alamy with pumpkins in front of a church on the Cape that has "church" "Spirituality" and "Architecture" as keywords, but not "fall" "pumpkins" "Halloween" "Cape Cod" or "Chatham" - all necessary and much more relevant. Even lighthouses on the Cape don't have the lighthouse name or Cape Cod - and they certainly had those keywords on 500px.

Something to look into. Very disappointing. I'm glad to do my own keywords even if it's more work. What a waste for them to have made my photos unsaleable since there isn't a single keyword that would help people find them. Pumpkins on the lawn of a church don't scream "spirituality."

I like the prices I see on Getty and photos appear under my name - but out of that $450, how much would I get if its not an exclusive and this is the specific info I am on a quest to find....

True that the keyword tool brings funny keywords...  Seems they modify your description to make it more generic. I doubt they made those changes to make them harder to sell. Maybe they scrapped the specifics to avoid problems because you do not have a property release and make it more generic and appealing to a broad international audience.

Their mapping tool is all over the place. When they went to ESP, I discovered that many of my files had missing keywords. You can't do it yourself nowadays, so I had to go through support, and every time I got a nippy note telling me that the description wasn't searchable only keywords, which I knew perfectly well, but they had 'disappeared' the keywords. I did a lot of singles, then a big batch, and I haven't got a round tuit for sorting through the rest. Finding out which keywords are missing takes forever, because it seems that if you had a keyword, and it isn't on the file's page as a keyword, that keyword might still be searchable, as they only put certain keywords on the file page. Not very handy, especially as they took descriptions off the page of non-editorial files too - it's like they've heard of making information available to buyers, but want no truck with it.

Hidden but perhaps still searcheable keywords - thats a new concept... Hard to tell then if modifications to keywords we make appear on Getty and if its worth spending time to revisit them.

I assume you mean "modifications we ask Support to  make for us"? Of did I miss them allowing us to do it ourselves again?

The only way we can know is to do 'test' searches. (A couple of times I've found a file showing up in a search within my own portfolio, but not in a site-wide search (or vice-versa). Getty even manages the impossible.

Not a single sale since the Getty tie-in. Had about 20 sales before, the highest being $66.50 net. How things change!

And they are not actually reviewing new pictures. Is it the new 123rf?
