Title: Importance of title
Post by: gerg on August 03, 2017, 08:33
Hi everyone,

i ve just see something important than i ve underestimate before: the title. I was thinking that only key-wording was important.
Shame on me!
Look at this image from my portfolio analytics (on attached file)

Now I am going to polish up my titles correctly :D

The Fotolia search doesn't include descriptions.
Even if it is like this, I think that the titles/descriptions are indexed by search engines.

Do you mean indexed by Google?

That is entirely possible, yes.

But inside Fotolia/Adobe they aren't used.

Yes I mean search engines like Google and others.
About Fotolia/Adobe I don't know if they are used, and how, or not, but if they exist they should have some importance (somewhere, in some way)?

If you test the search with exact description searches you will see that images/clips are not being found. It's not being used.

Just pick any phrase with at least one word that's not also in the keywords. You will not find it.

If anything is being used, only 5 words or so. Will have to test.

Chichikov thanks for these links.

I dont know if its used on internal search, but i clearly have more view with a proper title than a only one word title.

I did a little test and descriptions seem to be picked up by Google, but not by Fotolia's internal search engine. At least not complete descriptions. It's possible that they only include the first 4-5 words. Definitely not the entire description.

You'd have to be very exact in the search on Google however to have any chance of finding your clip/image.

Still, a lot of people searching via Google aren't looking for stock images to buy. You'd need to know how many Google  views translated to sales. Still, having a good title  can't be a bad idea!

I always try to make my titles keyword meaningful regardless of who I submit to, along with the descriptions.  It's just good business practice.

Though views don't always equal sales....in the days when I shot models they would get sometimes 100s or in some cases thousands of views and no sales. But yes it makes sense to have a good title and keywords.
