Better read those terms first . . .

You grant to GoPro and its licensees, successors and assigns a worldwide, non-exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, fully paid-up, royalty-free, right and license, with the right to sublicense . . . .

Yep. The entire thing is a licensing deal, with them paying for only a few of the licenses and getting the rest for free.

Yes 1000 usd for the video and the exposure in this case is definitely has value. Do you sell your vids on IS for peanuts? if so this deal doesnt look too bleak

It's just a twist on the decades old Photo Contest.

What if you don't win the contest? My impression, which can be wrong, is, even if you don't win a contest, the organizer usually still has the right to use your submitted image/footage, as they see fit and without compensation to you.

Is it true?

Yes.. Once you click the agree button and accept the terms and conditions, any images or video you submit is considered licensed to them, even if they don't pay you for it, and can also be sub-licensed by them to other entities.

I was looking to get a logo designed and came across these sites that offer contests to the designers. I get to choose a logo and someone "WINS". I couldn't do it.

I am not sure why they didn't do this earlier. Well expected GoPro move.

You should ask here. Some of the vector artists do really nice logo design.
