I like the rest of the stuff from his blog a whole lot more, but these shots are still very good, considering they were taken with a phone, they're great!

This seems like a gimmick to me, which may have worked because it is a gimmick. You shoot with a camera phone either because you have nothing else or because you want to prove a poitn and even if you are trying to prove a point it's still a gimmick. You are ultimately losing out on quality and resolution. Don't getme wrong, you probably can take good photographs on a camera phone, but if you have the choice I'd go a DSLR every time.

If you had a choice you'd probably go for a MF every time ;)

Obviously, a monkey could take these. One hot light, ambient, push the button, run the instagram. The only thing special is the subject, and possibly the shooter's name, if he's well known.

Which again makes it a gimmick. If you can bring the big boxy light and stand, you can bring a proper camera
