I don't submit to all sites but i'm currently in the progress of keywording several thousand files and i want to do it right for all sites because if i change my mind i don't wanna redo the IPTC-Data.
Is there a summary for all sites?
For example i thought five words in the description are enough but now i noticed that bigstock wants seven (pretty dumb imho) on the other side it seems that fotolia uses the description field as title and so only allow a maximum of 64 Characters (am i right). I think StockXpert don't need a description at all etc. etc.
What are the maximum keywords and what are the minimum keywords?
Do all sites need an Object Name?
I could save a lot of time if Description would be optional (which sites have this ?)
Any insights are appreciated maybe there is a nice summary on the net but i couldn't find it.

Hey grp_photo. I think you already know as much as I do about all this... but here's my tips.

If you plan to submit to Fotolia, place the 7 most important keywords first.  You can rearrange them after upload, but it is a pain.

Make sure you place a comma between keywords.  For some dumb geriatric reason I keyworded a whole batch in PS without commas and of course only the first three words appeared upon submission.  Oddly, they all arrived on IS though - the most difficult site.

I don't know if you want to do this - but I just went through all my photos at one site and placed my user name in the keywords.  This makes it easier to find my photos in a search on their affiliate sites.  (LOL, also, everyone who has stolen your keywords and has been too lazy to review them pop up when you search your user name.)

Some people here swear by prostockmaster or cushy stock - I don't know - never tried - but I think they have keywording tools built into them.

Thanks Pixart.
Yes Cushy shows the number of keywords this is a little help.

Okay i will keep it simple i make a summary from my knowledge and maybe you all can tell me if it will go through all sites without error message.

Object Name: just a word not necessary for fotolia
Headline: not necessary
Caption: min 7 Words max 64 Characters
Keywords: min 7 words max 50 words
everything else not necessary.

Am i right or wrong? ;)
Thanks in advance!

DT uses a combination of Title, Description and keywords for their best match. You really need to fill in those descriptions using the main word or two.

That was new for me - thanks :)

The description being used as the title at Fotolia is a bug that they will hopefully fix  soon for the (third) time

The best keyword advice I can offer is be concise, focus on the main elements of the photos, repeat top 3 keywords in title, description and keywords and don't get to conceptual with your keywords. Trying to cover every concept no matter how vague it may be in an image is what leads to most key word spam. Also depending on the site less is more when it comes to best match and relevance. My personal preference is for each image to rank well in a search for two or 3 main keywords rather then ranking way down the list in every keyword I can think of. That is what works for me but your mileage may vary.
