I thought that Shutterstock was bad, but this is the worst I've ever experienced.

How can the 1080 and 4K be the same price.

Edit: Depositphotos is the agency, they are currently investigating it following a raised ticket.

You're right, this doesn't make sense.. The 1080 sale should have been $0.01.

Which agency is this?

Depositphotos. I raised a ticket and they're looking into it, as they also think it looks wrong.

If it were me, I'd be screaming about the pitiful royalty payment, not so much whether 4K should be higher than 1080.

Or actually, no I just wouldn't be accepting a payment like that at all.

Reply from DP:

"Your two video files in question, namely 346821604 and 346822130, were sold under the Revenue Share Program. The royalties in the amount of $0.02 per each were estimated according to the total sales. Under this program, your earnings are based on the Revenue Share model. This means that 40% of net revenue is allocated among contributors whose files were downloaded within this plan.

It does not mean that the amount earned within this program will be as such every time, it will depend on the Revenue Share model for each month as explained above."

Really not pleased with this as I'm yet to receive any other money from a revenue share. All my earnings are from direct sales.

So basically, you had a download, and other contributors get the money.

Yep. I just emailed them back to say that I'm yet to receive any of this revenue share money from others, so how do I opt out.

Let's say an average cereal box has a volume of 1538 cubic cm. Let's say there is 4614 cereals in the box, but as we know, the box is never full, so let's lower the number to 4000 cereals. So, one cereal cost 0,00075. Which means you can buy 266.6666 cereals with one video. Or 533.3333 in your case. Not so bad, right? Meal is a meal.

That's one way to look at it. <cough> I guess.

So basically you are working in a kibbutz, where everybody is sharing everything!
Good luck with that!

Side note, many contributors talk a lot about a "fair share" on this forum.

Like in your DP kibbutz case, all looks great on paper, until you find out that only hard workers are sharing, and it doesn't look so great anymore when you are one of them  :P

Need a new way to sell this product that doesn't involve the existing agencies, something like this but for stock video and photos. https://stockx.com/

I think this might be why the NFT sector is taking off, for those who have fine art they can sell it that way, not everyone and won't replace stock though.

Can no longer make a living at this using the agencies.

If it possible to sell in some other way? using some new or not yet created platform?, maybe but the existing agencies operate like organized crime and will drop the price to free or nearly free to suppress any attempts to go around them.

They have VC funding in the millions so they could just take everyone's content and flip the switch and become free sites like Pexels overnight in order to crush any competition.

Honestly, this has become one of the dirtiest industries out there and all the agencies share the blame, a couple of them, Pond5 and Adobe as slightly more fair but that's about it.

I had a conversation with a rep from one of the agencies a couple of years ago, they launched a new program to make us more "incremental income", not more money but more "incremental income", same agency who won't speak to you or answer an questions and suddenly they are on the phone talking at me.

The rep talked at me for 10 minutes and I could not get one word in let alone a question in, when he finally paused I said "you done yet"?.  I have a couple of questions, i barely got one question in and got cut off again and kept spewing about this incremental income and that my content would be exposed to buyers who don't normally buy stock....just the customers I want eh?.

For once I was thinking and said how stupid do you think I am?, he replied,  let me explain the math to you again because this is really great and exciting news, your content will be pooled together with many other contributors in this program and we think there will be many as this is an exciting new way to earn incremental income and you will receive this incremental income based on the percentage of the average of all the contributors commissions from clips that sold in this group so if the average sale was for $15 you will get a percentage of that which is divided by the number of contributors in the pool.

So I said, so I am going from 50% commission to a fraction of a penny per unknown sales volume divided up among everyone?, he said yes but this is great news because you are going to be earning incremental revenue.

I really wanted to explode with a massive volley or swear words and should have but instead I simply said "Go F---K someone else over' and I hung up.

The mafia would be more fair than the agencies in this racket called stock.

No. Depositphotos had a sale of a subscription, and all the contributors who have content downloaded, by the person that bought that subscription, share half of the money from that sale.

I have requested that DP remove me from the subscription model and they have confirmed that this is possible.

I don't make much money on there, so it might not suit everyone (I am with other agencies which make me good money via subscription/share model), but I'm not going to watch my clips go for 2c and not getting anything in return from this scheme.

It sounds like that when you talk about P5 and their membership program.

If it is P5, then the revenue from that pool is not a fraction of a penny. The RPD for my videos is about $12.00 (non-exclusive) and about $17.00 (exclusive).
And I have many more sales from this pool than regular sales.
Without the revenue from this pool, I probably wouldn't be supplying P5 anymore. The regular purchases are far too few.

The hard part is getting into that pool, I don't think they are accepting new content which might actually be a good thing for those who are already in it otherwise the pool would be diluted but you're right, regular sales ended again for me on May 1 2021 but I assumed that was the summer slump being a bit worse this year due to the economy and recession and covid but then come September it went dead and stayed dead for the entire fall selling season.

In their forums I see a few people did get some very nice $300/clip sales so they still happen just not often and not anything one can make a living on.  I still rank Pond5 at the #1 semi-ethical agency and I guess Adobe #2.

I guess another reason sales have all but ended at Pond5 especially with editorial is they did a deal with Reuters and Newsflare, those two agencies sell all their content on Pond5 and at good prices too but now it seems there's also a deal in place with PA media (Alamy) and our Pond5 content is given to them, another "trusted global partner" just Like Adobe and Bytedance.  https://www.alamy.com/blog/you-can-now-access-premium-video-through-alamy
