Not quite sure why this isn't available on the iStock forums themselves, but it's doing the rounds elsewhere. I imagine most of us could have guessed this for ourselves, but it's good to see feedback of any kind.

It seems to be aimed at buyers rather then providers. I found the original article
http://www.istockphoto.com/article_view.php?ID=1461
and expected the links to lead to more details of what was required, directed at contributors; but they led to lightboxes of imagery they already have.

They have the creative research newsletter for contributors, but it remains to be seen whether it will continue following the departure of RogerMexico.

ROYALTY FREE . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 98%
RIGHTS MANAGED . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 32%

Pretty interesting read.

Especially that a major attraction to subscriptions is being able to download without having to get managerial approval every time an image is needed. I thought price would be the biggest reason but it looks like it's actually convenience. Time to raise prices on subscriptions!

Your math is wrong.
98% purchased RF
32% purchased RM
2% purchased only RM
30% purchased both RF and RM

No no no no Luis. It took 2 years, 17 people and $1.5 million in funding.  Why do you think the site performs like a Cleveland steamer?
