Hey MSG Folks,

I usually shot my Xmas pics during the actually holiday since the stuff is all setup but as you know that is too late for the actual holiday for our buyers to buy. Thus am I better off not submitting the holiday pics until next year say about 3 months prior to the event or just submit them now? What do you feel is a better strategy? Thanks

Tom

Especially with RF, and most especially with the micro sites, never upload all of the stuff at one time. And never upload all of your best stuff to any single site at one time. Try uploading a bit every month, say. By spacing out your submissions you are hedging yourself against search engine changes which favour newer or older content. Feed them a bit at a time.

Seasonal stuff is best shot in the studio in which case you can shoot it anytime, unless it is editorial. But that would be a different question :)

Start 6 months out and continually increase uploads as the Holiday nears, some holidays sell all year long.

Definitely don't send it to DT more than 6 or 7 months out.

It's critically important for a new image to gain early sales so that it climbs the default sort-order before it gets swamped by newer images. I reckon the peak time for seasonal image sales is roughly 6-8 weeks before the event so that's when I would recommend uploading them. I uploaded my Xmas series at the very beginning of November and a couple of them have gained traction and become established at the top of the sort-order in their subject. I'm hoping they'll now stay there for next year. Remember __ early sales are vital for for seasonal stuff.
