Title: istockcharts have been slowed
Post by: Jonathan Ross on June 06, 2009, 11:42
Hi all,

Just went to istockcharts and saw that Istock has stopped them from sharing a large portion of their info. What do people think about this. Why do you think Getty stopped this and are you happy or sad that the info is gone. I searched to see if there was another post on this but couldn't find it. Sorry if I have re posted an old article.

Best,
Jonathan

I am so glad that info is disappearing.  I never liked the fact that so much of my personal sales info was available to the entire world without my permission.  I tried removing my name from the list to no avail.

I visited the charts daily to track my ranking - it was an quick and easy way to get feedback on how I was doing at iStock. I enjoyed my daily dose of motivation/incentive and am sorry to see it go.

no offense, Karimala, but don't get carried away, with less than 10000 sales in 4 years, I don't think you're the one people were spying or comparing themselves to. and you see, that info is still available it took me just a click to find it and you provided it in your signature, huh? it's the gold and diamond contributors and those managed to become at least silver in less than a year that were the targets to snooping.

Unfortunately, I am one of those people.  An exclusive I met for the first time last weekend actually started quoting my IS stats to a whole group of people I'd also just met, much to my surprise.  Gotta say...I didn't like that one bit...and I don't think many others on these forums would like it either.  9000+ sales in three years (not four) isn't too bad for someone like me who started off as a true amateur and who didn't even know how to work a camera.  So yes, there are plenty of people who hear about how I started and how I was able to turn pro in less than a year, and therefore do want to see my stats.

At least with the links I provide here, I am the one providing the information.  And I also have the choice to leave a site that provides my stats info on my profile, which I choose not to do.  However, the problem I have with sites/programs like istockcharts is that I don't have any control over whether or not my information in made available on a site or in a program I know nothing about.

Yes you do __ could have just emailed them and asked to be made anonymous (like all admins, inspectors and many others too).

In the ideal world I'd like to have access to all the info and nobody else would. But of course it doesn't work like that and I think if you access the istockcharts for your own purposes (and who doesn't if they're honest) then you have a duty to share your own info too.

Ouch!  Looks like you need more motivation! Feb and March looked painful.

You're confusing this chart with one that shows sales or income. This tracks ranking, so it reads upside down to how you think it does - the descending lines show that my sales and sales rates are improving faster than everyone else's. At this scale your lines would be horizontal and right across the bottom.

Sharply_done: Where did you gat a chart like that, is from a software? I also liked to check my istockchart situation avery day, i even like it more than going to the IS page itself, so i think itīs a pitty to loose that tool, even if it was just a self confidence tool, as you say itīs motivation what makes us work to improve our sales each month.

If you just want it as a confidence booster, the istockchart still lists rank order and that appears to be being kept up to date.

As I said in a previous post, I could never find out how to remove my name from the list.  Any suggestions on who I'm supposed to contact or what button I'm supposed to push?

Thank you so much!  :)  My username wasn't on the original list when I first looked at the site, so it didn't make me very happy to discover it was added later on.  Hopefully it won't be added again.

Oh, duh!  Good for you then!  I was thinking the "top" of the chart was the good place to be.

Thanks for all the feedback. Between this and the other post there was a great deal of opinion that went both ways. I am on the fence that is why I threw it out there. Thank you SJ for the link.

Best,
Jonathan
