Title: Key to Vetta!!
Post by: nruboc on December 19, 2009, 03:18
I've found the key to getting your files into Vetta. If you've had problems in the past, here is the quickest,  sure fire way to get your files into Vetta.

The secret is to shoot over black, with some basic key lighting. For an example, take a look at these:
http://www.istockphoto.com/file_search.php?action=file&lightboxID=7278325 (http://www.istockphoto.com/file_search.php?action=file&lightboxID=7278325)

** Not making any judgements about the quality (good or bad) of the contributor, or contributors in question, just for example purposes.

None of them have many downloads though...

Not sure if a handful out of 50,000 images is a good sample.

Sure you will have hard times finding an apple isolated on white in Vetta. But there are many different styles in there. I don't have many Vetta images but none of them are with a black background.  ;)

Trust me, there's plenty in Vetta that look like simple outdoor snapshots to me.  I just have to shrug and hope the buyers don't get turned off too much.

Nontheless Sean, that lightbox is all the same contributor's files.  This thread is about as bogus as it gets.

Not sure how that makes the topic bogus, there are many in the Vetta collection similar to the examples shown, just because I happened upon a lightbox from one contributor doesn't make the point any less valid.

Here are some of my Vetta images.

I think you will see there are quite different than the example lightbox you posted.

Uh oh, did I inadvertantly start a "Show Me" thread. Before people start posting their Vetta, I cetainly didn't say all the files in Vetta are like the ones in my initial post. Just saying there are a lot like that.

It appears that to get accepted into Vetta in addition to having a black BG, the subject also needs to be looking up at something outside of the composition.

you've selected one contributor's Vetta images (many of which are beautiful) and you are suggesting that if you shoot like this, you're guaranteed into Vetta. did you start this thread because you can't get into Vetta?

Vetta is selling well for me, not many images in there. none on black backgrounds with the exception of one portrait, with the subject looking at the camera and not at something above the frame. Vetta has been a real coup in microstock

The OP appears to be independent and hence not eligible to submit to Vetta.

I think this just proves that things are looking up at Vetta.  ::)

Yes, I'm saying by utilizing this basic technique you have a much better chance of getting into Vetta (IMHO). My opinion is not from just these photos but from looking through a larger sampling of the collection. Of course you have to execute it correctly, nothing is guaranteed.

And no, I can't get into Vetta, I'm non-exclusive, but if you haven't noticed there's been alot of threads questioning what gets accepted into Vetta, so I'm pointing out an observation I made. I agree, Vetta is a very good idea from IStock.

I didn't make any judgements on quality or as you put it "beauty" of the photos posted, but since you have, maybe you'd like to explain why you say "many" of the photos are beautiful, and not "all"?

I realize this is an old thread but was searching for Vetta info and came across it.  Do you have to be exclusive for images to be selected to Vetta?  Do you have to offer them as Vetta?  I'm not sure what is happening but it seems one of my first five images was added to Vetta?  I'm still trying to figure out how iStock works.  Is it something that I want to happen?   There are some numbers ... 5.0(1) ... under the Vetta column.  Does that mean it is a Vetta image?  What do the numbers mean?
Thanks,

Warren,

Some one gave your image a 5 out of 5 rating.  This is a different column than Vetta.

Yes you have to be exclusive and yes you have to submit them to Vetta. This was your rating as said over me

I see now.  I just followed, or switched, the wrong column down.  Maybe I'll figure it out, if I can ever learn to recognize an artifact.   :P

Well for starters you got to be Exclusive with IS and the OP seams to be independant, so bye, bye.
