Looks interesting, for another take on selling images, I wonder how they market it if you get your own domain name?  (Only read the home page, :))

Hello there!
I'm from newbielink:http://www.kumaru.com [nonactive] and I just read your post.

How do we market your photos?
When you become a full member, you get your own domain name AND your photos are included in the collective stock. The collective stock are all the photos from all the photographers. So, we market Kumaru.com as a landing page. However, at every opportunity we provide a link to your website. Essentially is 2 services in one.

As you said, CJPhoto, there's a 5% credit card charge: that's the cost of our provider. If you want to sell a royalty-free or rights-managed via Kumaru, the minimum price is $4 (your profit would be 0). However, we are not in favor of MicroStock in terms of "MicroPrices" because it is sustainable only for a few photographers. A photo is worth much more than $10-$15. We are in favor of little Stocks (# of photos) however, on Kumaru, you have unlimited storage and bandwidth. and the more photos you upload the better is for you. We let you set your price, your license (RF/RM), and we advertise for the collective stock.

Right now, we are having a promotion: when you upload 1000 high-resolution photos in 21 days, we refund you the fee you paid for your full membership. So with a little work on your part, it's free.

Our aim at Kumaru, is to offer an alternative to traditional agencies that takes 50%-80% in commission and don't let you develop your long-term reputation. With us, as you have your own domain name (it's included in the membership), when you want to become fully independent, you can.

If you have any questions, you can send me an email at: newbielink:mailto:[email protected] [nonactive]

Ok... I'm slight confused about the domain name included in the price of admission.  I have my own company, my own website but if I decide to try an alternative... do I then point my domain to Kumaru or come up with something completely new?

How does that work?

Cheers,  JC

Hello JC,

It's as you wish. The domain name is free so if you want it, you take it. Otherwise you can redirect your domain name to our servers and keep building on your online identity.

We bundle a domain name because we want photographers to stay independent. You are not working for us, but for yourself. The day you decide you want to stop using Kumaru for whatever reason, you can do it without losing the traffic you developed over the years. This is especially important when selling stock photography, because the idea of this business is a long-term enterprise to get lots of photos to sell.

Sorry for the delayed answer. I thought the forum would have notified me that I had an answer.  I'm going to check that now.

Have a nice day,

Eric
