That was a great read MikLav - A lot that was informative for me, plus he said a few things that I've been waiting for someone to say for quite a while.  Especially on inappropriate use of self-branding and social media.

It must be a truly great interview because I can't find anything about it to criticize. *!

Can't believe I missed this thread.  Thanks everybody for the kind feedback. I thought John did an awesome job with the questions. Some let me vent - which I obviously love - and others forced me to get my view clear on the topic, which is always helpful. I enjoyed that interview more than any others I've done, and obviously it's a massive honor to be there alongside so many industry greats in John's interview series.

Yes, Microstock Diaries was neglected for the last few months (maybe more) of 2010 while I worked on a separate project. It was something I needed to get finished and it wasn't getting there while blogging and traveling, so I had to knuckle down. The product of the project isn't for microstock contributors, so I didn't promote it on my blog or here, which is why it seems like I've been sleeping too.

Anyway, I'm back to blogging now with lots of interesting stuff lined up for 2011.  My topic theme for January is 'distribution'.

Yes and after reading this I need to know if I should drop IS or SS? :D I have two agencies... I don't disagree at all, I guess it's my sitting on the waall that's the problem.

The optimal quantity of agencies is 1, 4 or 20+.

As for this one, can I get a told you so or, gee he's reading my posts here? LOL I may have put it, that supporting the small agencies and upstart wannabees is like pissing into the wind.  :o

The top four microstock agencies continue to gain more market power and the rest are losing power.

Great interview it made some points that I should face. I'm not cut out for micro, I never will be. I need to market my interests elsewhere.

Hi Lee,

It was a great interview. The two of you are top notch in my book. Keep the masses educated and keep taking great photos. I also saw the article on you and Tyler shooting some 60,000 images with 7 other photographers in 4 days that was also an interesting article, trigger finger must have been aching that day ;) I would love to hear more about it. Thanks for all your sharing.

Best,
Jonathan

Thanks Jonathan.

For those who haven't seen it, here's John's interview with Jonathan: http://www.johnlund.com/Interview-andersonross.htm (http://www.johnlund.com/Interview-andersonross.htm)  Lots of awesome stuff in there too, as you'd expect.

Yes, the Veer shoot was awesome. Obviously it wasn't just Tyler and I who shot all those photos otherwise our index fingers would have really been tired. From memory, I think I shot only 5,000 frames, 2,000 of which were on the first day - my count went down very quickly which is either me becoming more selective as I learned, or just exhaustion.  The Veer producers did pretty much all the work, including driving us out-of-towners to the shoots, so we didn't have much excuse for being tired. Anyway, the reported total frames for all photographers over all four days was 80,000, with around 7,000 selects.

I have a post on it here (http://www.microstockdiaries.com/veer-photoop-2010.html) and it was also discussed a little here on MSG in this thread (http://www.microstockgroup.com/veer-marketplace/veer-holding-photoops-just-like-istockalypses/).

Hi Lee,

Thanks for sharing the numbers still even if someone is driving that is a lot of shots, you must have been knackered. Great to see the results some really nice shots in there. Gang shoots can be a lot of fun. It always amazes me how a bunch of different photographers can shoot the same models in the same locations and get such different stuff. Very cool indeed, keep shooting.

Cheers,
Jonathan
