Visionary stuff. Looks promising.

Post on Rob Haggart's blog.

Title: Re: ImageSpan - they may be on to something here

I am not sure I really 'get' how this is different than what is out there already or perhaps I am not understanding something.

Is it correct to say that this is a buying portal.  I market my images and then when someone wants to buy something I send them there to a link to pay for and download the photo?  I agree that the tracking features sound interesting but wouldn't it be simpler, if I am going to market my own images, for me to create my own little store and keep all the profits instead of sending it through someone else?

Leaf - Maybe I'm not reading this ImageSpan thing correctly but I got the impression they somehow protect the image, track it, and have some sort of purchasing ability directly through the image.

Meaning, the image can be anywhere - internet, PC, email, etc - and a buyer can use a credit card to buy the image directly through the image. It doesn't need a purchasing portal. The individual image is the purchasing portal.

Anyone else reading it like this?

Would be good to see a site that uses this.

I talked to these folks at Photoshop World and what the offer is tracking of licenses and they provide a web portal that is partially customizable.  The behind the scenes information they track for you looked easy to use. When potential clients visit the site, they will not know they are not dealing directly with you.

The market they are going for is to support creatives that want to rights manage their work. I know several photographers that have had trouble doing rights management of their work and at least one of them is trying LicenseStream out.  I thought they gave a good presentation, they offer nice upload tools for Lightroom and Expression Media.  If all of your work is RF, I see no advantage to dealing with them.

Now your responsibility in the realtionship is to drive your clients to the site.  They will not help you market your work.
