Got 9 sales this month so far at Photokor. Incredible increase! Unfortunately nearly all at 18 cents to me. Hate to see more of them selling!

Decision time: Is it better to get a few cents from a low earner with very low rates, or nearly nothing from one with a more decent contributor deal?

you compete with yourself on price.

Personally I think the chance that a buyer will actually go to the trouble to search for a cheaper version of one of my images on another site is probably 1 in a million.

You can't even buy a stamp with 18 cents.  Time to stop supporting low earners who chip away at the big earners.

If you absolutely need to do micro stock, I would recommend Fotolia. You will get more and at least, contrary to i-stock, shutter... and others, they do have respect fro their contributors.

18 cents.   Think back to when you signed up.  Do you recall anyone holding a swinging pocketwatch in front of your eyes? Maybe they hypnotized you.

By contributing  to ripoffs like Photokor, we just continue making it impossible for new sites - with reasonable prices and commissions - to get started.

Interesting. I assume then you do not support the "Fotolia deactivation day" drive?

No hypnotization was required. Quite a few much more established contributors than me signed up with them, due to the fact that they where (and possibly) are the only site focused on Asia. An untapped customer base means that you "do not compete against yourself" or influence another site, except if they target the same market. If there was another with a better deal targeting this market, there would not even have been a question about it.

I did not calculate the income of every size and type deal they make and my cut of it. It never was a problem, because they did not sell anything. Now they start to and I can see (or rather can't see) my income.

PS The first reported sales ranged from 0.35-$1.50, so there was no reason to abandon ship before.

Hey we've all done it.  A new site sounds so promising, there's a range of prices.   Time goes by and you find out that sales are fraequently discounted, and most sales are small images  They start the fog machines and talk about all the package deals, partners, 'old credits' etc.  After the first year, they have a significant archive, so they can start cutting prices and commissions because they know the path of least resistance is always to just leave our photos there and stop thinking about it.

It's the same thing that makes us hang on to a stock after we've lost 90% and know it's never coming back.  The smart players have "sell" orders with their brokers, to automatically cut their losses.  Maybe we need something like that.

Not the impression I have formed from recent posts in the fotolia forum here.

Does the $1.62 pay for the time you spend on Photokor. Is $1.62 a month going to make your life better. Waste of time.

Actually the $1.62 is for 6 months. $1.62 is not a major life changing amount, but still feel better than some sites with 6 months and zero income. Have actually stopped uploading 4 months ago, so I am fine on time (mine is actually free at present, as I am on borrowed time here, but don't tell my customers...).  ;)

Since this person hasn't been back to discuss more about this I suspect it was posted to start exactly what's happening...beating up on FT, which they deserve.  In July I made a measly $56 on FT (with about 3k images), down from $80 in the last few months and down from $150 earlier last year.  The constant pricing trickery, price reductions, carefully controlled search placement means NOBODY stands a chance there, except FT.  Indeed there may be some one-offs where contributors are making or retaining income, but by in large I suspect the bulk of contributors are taking it up the wazoo.  For me, and I mean this only from my personal perspective (I wish no ill will on any of the other contributors) since my income is constantly spiraling amongst the continued shady pricing and image placement, this is one agency I hope goes under.  We need fewer players in this game anyway and I'd love to see their own greed come back and bite them in the ash.

This half pathetic thread has produced a few very well expressed opinions. This being one of them.
