Title: List the agencies that you've dropped in the past year and reasons why
Post by: Brasilnut on August 18, 2019, 08:00
I'll start:

Canstock: Ridiculous rejection reasons + very very very few sales
Colourbox: Very few sales + ridiculous prices for clips (as low as 20cents each)
Canva: Made friends with free-download devils + shady deals with Getty = huge drop in already low earnings for me

Good post.

Any agency paying less than $0.30 rate. Hence:

321RF and Istuck

These are agencies I no longer submit to but still retain the submitted images in case, somewhere down the road, they start treating their partners with a little more fairness and respect. I'll then consider re-starting submitting if they meet my requirements.

GLStock: it was already a low earner, but since the make-over it's become a zombie agency with zero sales (and zero effort put into marketing)
Storyblocks: well, they dropped me, actually.

123, I dropped them because sales were low and it took them forfreakingever to review new uploads.  I had to remind them every time.  Finally, even reminding them didn't work, so I told them they weren't keeping up their end of the contributor agreement, and to pay me what they owed me and delete my profile.

istock, I dropped them when they lost my trust.

Shutterstock, I dropped them when they went insane with vector upload requirements.  I was unhappy for a long time before that, but stayed out of sentiment, since they were my first stock site.

I have been trying to edit that previous post to take out istock.  I dropped them years ago.

I left iStock in 2011, never looked back, and never regretted that move.

Is it where lead the good advices you give or sell? Do you need some?  :D Sorry, to be brutally honest

Think there are tons of people who will not complain about their sales here and who will keep their advices because they know that every experience is unique, and that they really dont need more competition.

I've just dropped CanStock for the same reason as everyone else it seems - very low sales and ridiculous rejections. I've often had 1 image pass and another that was similar rejected for a stupid nonsensical reason.

The other one I've dropped is Zoonar. In over 2 years, with almost 2000 images, I've made a grand total of 18 cents.

Let me give you an example. I uploaded three images of a colored liquid in a beaker. It was the same image and I only changed the color of the liquid using Photoshop. The images with the green and blue colored liquids were accepted but the one with the red liquid was rejected for "Poor isolation".

Another example: I uploaded a image of a mountain range. It was shot in a National Park and there weren't any people in it. Just mountains and a dramatic stormy sky. It was rejected because:
"There appears to be a release missing for this file. A model release is always required whenever there are identifiable faces present. A property release is required when an file includes private property. Please obtain any necessary releases before re-submitting."

Some National parks do require releases though ;-). Their best ones are nudity wheres theres no one in the picture
