Title: Looking to sell 3,000 Vectors
Post by: junglebay on November 16, 2015, 03:30
Hi, was just curious if there would be anyone willing to buy or if someone here knew of someone interested in buying all my present vector pattern artworks, 3,000 in all. My plan is to sell for commercial use only. Not selling the artworks so that the buyer can resell but to use on his/her projects.

Not sure what the market for that would be. I think a buyer would only be interested if they could resell. There are a few stock companies licensing portfolios non exclusive for a one off payment. Not a good deal in my opinion.

Thank you for your reply. The market would be for home decor and fashion accessory suppliers / printers.

Yes, the option of selling everything including right to sell is a very bad idea.

Im not sure if this is the best place to get information regarding what you would like. I think you should try to research the big textile companies and find a niche where your patterns might work in. I have no clue on what they look like or if they even meet expectations. I know that some textile firms always buy patterns and such from various freelancers even if they have a design department as they are always looking for different looks.

The best thing is to post a link to your portfolio, or some images from it, because there are different types of illustrations, styles that might or might not fit in here...You said home decor market...I'm not sure...
It all depends on the style/type of work you do....without seeing it, is hard to tell if you could do well in microstock or macro, or even trying to get a traditional agent.

..usually people use the term "licensing" instead of selling when it comes to editorial or commercial use.

Without the copyrights it is not an interesting offer

I doubt anyone will buy 3000 vectors unless it's amazing quality and can be bought at a reasonable price. Maybe you can sell 3000 vectors in 1990 when vector resources were scarce, but not today. Today, they're everywhere and every type of vector imaginable is available.

Some people may buy some vectors if they're useful, but not the entire collection. It's the same as a cable TV company trying to give you every channel, be it good or crappy for one large price when you just want ESPN, HBO, Showtime, AMC and the Food Network.

You're not looking to have someone "buy" your collection.  You're looking to "license" your collection, like a clip art collection on a cd.  "Buying" indicates assigning the rights to someone else.  It's unlikely anyone needs to license 3000 vectors they can't see, and probably wouldn't use more than 5% of.
