Hey yalls,

Lets pretend you were talking to a guy who's been pretty much absent from the stock photo thing for almost a year with the exception of doing little uploads here in there just to stay in the game -- which is a lot like my situation.

What significant changes have their been? What sites are good to upload to at this time.

StockXpert have been purchased by Istock/Getty. The images from StockXpert are removed from photos.com and I'm not sure what Istock/Getty want to do with it.

Bigstock have been purchased by Shutterstock who want to do a credit SS with it. Some noticed higher sales already...

A new high quality exclusive collection called Veta at Istock. With higher prices

Lets see now...

Mediocrity has hit new heights, prices have achieved new lows.

Photographers still make a beeline for start up sites like lemmings heading for a cliff.

Some macro agencies have started micro sites that are a pleasure to work with and treat photographers like intelligent, professional beings.

The forums are full of whingers who really should be out shooting...no change there.

But it still beats working for a living...

BigStock introduced a fantastic new upload system, every photo is now automatically given the category People>women and Background>Misc, scientists are confident they'll be able to get it to work soon.

FT hit new highs in contributor relations.

DT have given each inspector a new training aid to help with model release decisions, it's has a picture of a head on one side.

iStock plans to hold a 'lypse' in everybodies home town by the end of 2010.

Shutterstocks forum is now available on the comedy channel.

362 new stock agencies open each week, 363 stock agencies go bust each week.

Photos of goldfish shaking hands and wearing headsets will be the big seller of 2010. (By the way goldfish shots now need model releases)

Thinking out of the box. There is global shortage in large brown carton boxes (fitting at least one standing frowning businessman holding a light bulb) at the moment since stockers hunt them down as props.

Most of the start up sites have struggled but Rodeo, Yaymicro, Zymmetrical and Veer marketplace are all doing well and have proved to me that is is possible for new sites to establish themselves in this market. No doubt there are lots of people who disagree but they work for me. I also like cutcaster, sales are low but growing and the site is a pleasure to use.

Same, I think that's the biggest news in microstock, in 2009

Also, the need of saving ink is urgent. As example a picture like this

You forgot to mention the huge raises agencies gave to photographers in 2009.

Expecting even higher raises for 2010 to attract new photographers.

Shutterstock is culling all their vehicle shots to be on the safe side of the law

Dreamstime is culling all images 3-4 years old with now sales. If you don't manually deactivate them they are up into the free section. If you have any you can find them here

Yeah, with the sites culling (extremely generic) vehicle images, I was very surprised to see that the second entry in Dreamstime's monthly assignment is a shot of a BMW with the distinctive front grill VERY obvious. I guess DT isn't worried about vehicles - even clearly identifiable ones.
