Yesterday, my personal website was down in the morning because my host experienced a power outage due to the heavy air conditioning loads on the power grid.

SS has been having problems for me this am...internal server errors. Anyone else seeing this?

Wow, very interesting.  Internet was down this morning, just got off phone with cable company to fix, then a couple of internal errors connecting to SS.

I doubt it is the heat after all SS is in NY and they haven't been affected by the heat like everyone else has.

Storms and power outages along east coast.  No idea if SS is affected.

They did not hit the NY area.

SS may be in NY, but that doesn't tell us where their servers are located, so depending on their servers location, they could very well be affected by the heat.  The Amazon outage occurred in Virginia while Amazon is based all the way across the country in Seattle.

Amazing.  Scorching, suffocating summer heat is the summer norm in my part of Florida.  Amazing that some of the rest of the country can't function in it?!

No internet problems .... but ... my electric bill last month was over $500 because the AC was running 24/7 just to keep the house at 76 degrees. I'd rather have internet problems. LOL

Amazon has a bunch of data centers in different parts of the US, as well as one in Ireland.  They're not all identical; I know the one in Virginia has a bunch of high end clustered servers.  I guess not everybody has designed their solutions with disaster recovery in mind.  Bet that changes after the dust has settled.

State of Virginia officials say this is the largest single non-hurricane power outage ever. And there is  alot of stuff that runs through there server-wise.

I know. Ive been to palm springs in the summer when it was 105+. Ive been to San Antonio TX when it was in the low 100s. That is very typical for those places. I dont get why such a big deal is being made.

I think a lot of the power outages were caused by the violent and destructive stoms that downed trees and brought down power lines, not the heat itself.  It's not just the oppressive heat but also the lack of power - not only no air conditioners but no fans either.  Add to that the problems for those in the city where the concrete and pavement hold the heat and it doesn't cool down much at night.

You also have a lot more population density in some of the major cities along the northeast and mid atlantic which puts a larger than normal strain on the power grid when there is a heat wave.  FL, TX, AZ expect the high heat regularly and the infrastructure is built for that but in the northeast it throws things out of whack.  Kind of like when they get 3 inches of snow in the south and close the schools for 2 days.

I can second this... took the family to Disney World this week (thank you microstock!)  Started out drenched by storm Debby, and the last several days have been miserably hot.  Certainly not what I'm used to... I'm practically melting.

As for SS... I think something affected them today.  My sales there were terrible today... about 50 to 75% lower than the other Saturdays in June.  Downtime today could explain it.
