A few months ago Basar Hatirnaz surveyed microstock image producers for his doctorial thesis at Yeditepe University in Instanbul, Turkey. He got 400 responses to his survey from contributors with a wide range of experience in the microstock business. The results of his research provide some interesting insights into the microstock industry. Here is a link to a pdf http://www.selling-stock.com/Files/98d99a4b-65db-4ebe-8254-686b083f9d9d/Hatirmaz.pdf of the full 47 pages of his thesis. If you want to read my executive summary you can find it here http://www.selling-stock.com/Article/microstock-photography-survey, but you have to pay to read it.

That's a thesis?  He asked a bunch of questions of others, made charts from the answers and then said what was in the charts.

That was my first thought. When I got my masters I remember one of the professors would always challenge your conclusions by saying, "so what?".  I would love to hear a so what conclusion.

Right.  I thought you were supposed to derive some conclusion from the research, or make a point, or a discovery.  Some sort of extensive look into why things are the way they are, or where they are going.

Sounds like Jim did the thesis, instead ;)

Pursue a Doctoral Degree with a thesis of 47 pages? The term papers by students in my institute had rarely less than 80 to 100 pages of text plus bibliography, figures, tables, etc. But maybe that's a typical German thing 8) 8)

Wow, this is really a disgrace.

14. What is the mountly average number of photos that you upload

How did this ever get published?!

Also, his questions are naive. He's asking how many images you submit monthly and the options are in tens (less than 10, 10-20, 20-30, .., 90-100, more than 100) and then later he asks about the monthly microstock income, and the options are less than 1000$, 1000$-1500$ and so on, overall in 500$+ categories.

Why would anyone upload so little, but had so much income?

This is too funny. I have to work 3x harder just to write up one of my experiments, and still I'd have a crappy salary as a post-doc. And here he is, with this 47 pages worth of crying. * world, u evil.

It may not be one of the world's top 10 universities.
(Actually, I see it isn't even  one of Turkey's top 10, it comes in at 39th in Turkey or 1,791 in the world. But at least it is a better university than the Turkey Police Academy. http://www.webometrics.info/en/asia/turkey)

Maybe this is just a summary of the data from a much longer actual thesis in Turkish?  I can't imagine awarding any kind of advanced degree for posting histograms of survey questions with no introduction, materials and methods or discussion.  We don't know anything about who was sampled except they do not seem to be very successful since most sold fewer than 100 images in a month.  I didn't look after the first few pages as I doubt it can tell us anything interesting.

Yeah, that's what I was thkinking, but OP said "full 47 pages from his thesis".

Edit: come to think of it, if they are not native english speakers or proficient in english, this could mean something completely different - an excerpt of 47 full pages.

There is some interesting details in there, nothing really new, but still fun.

But yes, how this can be thesis paper is hard to understand?

Maybe there is more somewhere else and this is just one very small chapter?

I'm thinking Leaf should take the Microstock Poll Results data and take a run at a PhD.

I did too, I think he promised the results, but maybe I'm wrong. Either way, I'm not going to pay to read the analysis of a survey that I participated in for free.  :D

Yeah that right there is in bad taste and smells of a scam looking for lowly victims.
