Title: minimum age to submit photos?
Post by: kingjon on August 30, 2015, 00:02
I quit microstock a couple of years ago but my son has shown some interest. He is just 16. Does any one know if there is a minimum age to submit to stock agencies? I have about $10k worth of equipment sitting around picking up dust. Someone might as well be using it. I would, of course spend some time teaching him the technical aspects. He is very artistic (more so than me) and has more time than I do to invest.

thanks,
John

Some agencies (i.e. SS, FT) specify 18 years as the minimum age, others (i.e. picfair) do no have any age limit

Also, 123RF, DT and istock say 18. The issue would be the legal capacity to enter into contracts, which varies by country. Legal capacity is a person's authority under law to engage in a particular undertaking or maintain a particular status. If they can't legally sign a contract because they are not an adult then neither the site's contributor's agreement nor any model releases would hold up in court if a model sued for any reason. Parents or legal guardians would only be able to sign up for their under-18 children with special permission from (some) sites. You would probably have to sign some kind of agreement of indemnity. You should contact the sites that your son is interested in to inquire if you can't find that info on their sites. Each site posts their contributor's agreement and/or terms and any age restriction would be listed there.

thx - I kind of figured it would be 18. I think I might just work with him for a couple of years then let him have the account and equipment when he turns 18. Probably the simplest solution.
