What is the reason, you need to add more keywords?

Alamy notified me that all 3,000+ of my images are poor discoverability.


What a shame and waste of time doing all that uploading and keywording!!  Can you believe that?

I noticed that when I have the max keywords of 50 the discoverability bar goes to green! Basically the more info you input such as the description length and the other various data fields the bar goes up. However if your sales have been fine in the past I doubt anything has seriously changed in that regard but then I guess we won't really know for a month and then see if sales are the same.

Why should we have to jump through hoops? I refuse to do that.

I understand how you feel but think about it this way, there are a lot of photographers who will jump through those hoops. If your livelihood is dependent on jumping through those hoops then start jumping, if not then don't jump I guess. As for me I'm going to do a little jumping but I doubt I will rework 720 images which is what my tally is for poor discoverability.

It means nothing. My so-called 'poor discoverability' files (almost all) are still perfectly discoverable and I have absolutely no intention of spamming keywords. It's absolutely crazy that they are trying to force people to panic into spamming - on Alamy as most places there's plenty of spam already.
If you read their blog article about 'tagging' ( what's wrong with the word 'keywording'?), it's not very encouraging.
One particularly bizarre thing is that the system splits keyword phrases which have more than four words - often needed for precise place names. However they are still findable either by combining keywords or because ? The caption is still searchable ?
Even more bizarrely, now at last having sorted keyword phrases, their search also splits them onto separate words, so 'Red Arrows' will show up in a search for 'arrows'. Surely we're all perfectly capable of knowing when that's appropriate, e.g. keywording 'London Bridge' also as 'London' and 'Bridge', but NOT splitting e.g.  New and York (their system will still put 'New York' pics into to a search for 'York', but claims the algorithm will push them lower down. We shall see - it didn't work before.

Discoverability is only an advisory it does not need to be followed literaly.

I've left my images exactly as they were uploaded as my keywords were comprehensive enough even though "discoverability" sugests otherwise.

The only real pain in the bum is the lack of categories though there are ways of adding these in batches i.e. filter for food select all the images then select category food and drink.

Just can't wait.

From what I see here and on the Alamy forum, this is just what Sammy and others have said. Advisory not compulsory. I'm not going to worry about 50 words and 10 super words and then fill in every box. Buyers will still be able to find our work just fine.
