model release pets

Does anyone know for sure if we need a model release for pets?

How about portrait pics we took of someone elses pet?  I wouldn't be suprised if we needed a property release or something.. seems like there could be some gray lines here if there are no rules.  What if i take pictures of a prize winning dog aren't they protected?  I think zoo animals have to have property releases so why would it be different for personal pets?

You are kidding right.  I see your point but surely not.  there has to be a line drawn somewhere.

Can anything be photographed without a release.  Everything in the world is either owned by someone, designed by someone or claimed by someone.

Post any photo and I am sure I could think of some obscure person that you need a release from.

well no, i'm not kidding.. just wondering.
on one side, you need a property release from a zoo if you take pics of their animals (if they could tell that the animals are THEIRS is another question)
on the other side you can freely take pics of dogs and pet on the street without releases

how about the $1,000,000 show dog....
if you took it's portrait could you sell it on microstock?

but i wonder where the line is.. or if there is one?
