Title: Money Images in Photoshop Not Working
Post by: pixel8 on October 04, 2015, 02:07
I was trying to import an image into photoshop tonight that had a portion of a hundred dollar bill in it and Photoshop said it could not open the image due to Currency issues and then wanted to direct me to some currency website.

Has anyone else had this problem of Photoshop recognizing money in the image and rejecting them?

It was flat on but it was only a third of the money. Anyone have a work around for this problem.

I ended up using Gimp instead but its not the same as using photoshop and was a pain to get the results I needed.

"Adobe's Photoshop has a built in counterfeit deterrence system designed to prevent users from accessing images of currency. When the Photoshop detects an attempt to access a currency image, it displays a warning message and directs the user to a website with information on international counterfeiting laws"

Ridiculous isn't it hardly going to stop a master counterfeiter they have the same on Paintshop - sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

I had the same problem some months ago. What I know about this now:
It's to prevent counterfeiting, up from CS5. In springtime this wasn't an issue. I heard if only a part of the banknote is shown PS will open the image. But I don't know the size of this part (10%, 25%, 50% of the banknote??) It was possible to open a picture where a grandpa gives his grandson some money. The banknotes had been only a little part of the image but about 50 % of the banknotes were shown.

With older versions of PS (dunno which versions) the workaround was to open the file in Image Ready.

After home printers quality increase certain point and also home scanners resolution increase, Adobe implement this algrothm to prevent, not big scale counterfeiting; but some kind of homemade counterfeiting.

What I know PS CS4 will open the images. It concerns only CS5 and newer.

I also list some other ways of opening money bills in Photoshop in my German blog article (you might need Google Translate):
