Title: More "Make Money" Silliness
Post by: Sean Locke Photography on May 26, 2011, 06:27
Check this place out (I don't think we've seen it before):
http://www.thephotographerslife.com/get_started/ (http://www.thephotographerslife.com/get_started/)

Especially:
http://www.thephotographerslife.com/lzy/catalog (http://www.thephotographerslife.com/lzy/catalog)
http://www.thephotographerslife.com/ph2/website/ (http://www.thephotographerslife.com/ph2/website/)

Wow.  Talk about scammy.  Unfortunately, there's even some IS people's name connected to this place :( .

"Well I can't promise you a real, live road trip with Andrea, Danny, Lise or Shelly. But I can say with confidence that with Breakfast Stock Club Premium Membership, you’re in for a real breakthrough -- whether you’re brand-new to stock photography, or have already gotten your portfolio started! "

All for $40 a month!

Looks like they have a portfolio on istock too, I don't think they are making the 2,000 dollars a week they claim you can make though.  It looks like just 70 dls in 4 years, not a stunning endorsement is it.

"Can You Take a Simple Photograph?

If yes, you could make $200-$2,000 a week taking snap shots in your own backyard… on your family vacations… or anywhere in the world you care to travel. "

Oh my..I've been out and about trying to take stock photos good enough to sell, sometimes struggling to come up with ideas and the whole time the answer was to simply take photos of my backyard doh! I could have been rich by now if I only knew  :D

Button on the web site says: BBB Accredited Business

when you click on it:

This business is not a BBBOnLine participant at this time.

Apparently it's sometimes easier than we think...  ::)

The only way to make that kind of money with a POS is to tail celebreties and politicians, get embarrassing photos and blackmail them.

Sounds like you had a $40 a month plan you could have sold, now you gave it away for free.

Linking to these things, especially in context (ie this forum), has the potential to improve their search ranking.

I'm all breathless just reading this and  thinking of all the possibilities.

I guess it's an IQ test - if you send this person any money, you've failed.

The tone - gliding over half truths smoothly and quickly, promising the earth if you just buy this book of tips, no skill or experience required - is pure snake oil sales.

If I put "craptacular" next to the link, would that help? ;)

negative reviews improve Google ranking (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/28/business/28borker.html?pagewanted=1&ref=general&src=me)

Quote
“Hello, My name is Stanley with DecorMyEyes.com,” the post began. “I just wanted to let you guys know that the more replies you people post, the more business and the more hits and sales I get. My goal is NEGATIVE advertisement.”

It’s all part of a sales strategy, he said. Online chatter about DecorMyEyes, even furious online chatter, pushed the site higher in Google search results, which led to greater sales. He closed with a sardonic expression of gratitude: “I never had the amount of traffic I have now since my 1st complaint. I am in heaven.”

This is one of the most depressing things I've read in a long time, what an evil scum bag.
But if he's logging into the complaints forums trying to reverse-psychology them into stopping writing about him maybe the negative reviews are actually hurting his business?
Who knows, either way it pretty much ruins what little faith I had left in society that people like that are free to walk the streets.

"Can You Take a Simple Photograph?"

Nope, I always end up taking complicated photos, so I won't subscribe.
