I have another little story that might be interesting for photographers who aren't totally sure, about uploading an image that is quite unusual. I asked for opinions about caligraphy photos that I took and put on white in June 2008. Yes I was a noob back then...

I think everyone agreed about that it wont. I was myself and even thought it would be rejected

I did 5 different words and wondered if it could sell at least once. At least one of them did great. It will be a new flame shortly at Istock (96th downloads today). It aslo did great on every agency I uploaded it on. It seem that the word thank you was appealing to the buyers lol

If there's one lesson I've learned (or not learned) about microstock is, I can never predict or believe what buyers will buy. The second you think you have a money shot, think again... then you upload that one you're sure will be rejected, but you like it, and it sells 100 times in a year.

Congrats on that... simple sells, that's for sure. As long as you can get it past the reviewers who want to reject it for LCV, that is.

there were a few arty photos i did for photocase and out of curiosity submitted them to the top sites. surprisingly not only were they accepted but did very well out of the gate. i think one of the common theme to what does well is down to how much you liked the image you created in the first place, not whether you think it will be accepted. in all cases, the first trumped the latter.
