I feel that is a problem and hope in the future it can be addressed, at least let us know what sites accepted our clips.

Semi offtopic.

Knowing before accepting any agreement shouldn't be mandatory?

Speaking in general and not for BB, if this helps in the past i have seen some of my clips in a chinese marketplace sold for some hundrends of Yen (some eight to ten euro per item in total i think) through affiliate or whatever called partnerships.

That was such a huge frustration!!

Another issue I have with BB is when my clips get reviewed, it says "online" in my admin panel.  But, online where?  Which agencies took the clips?  Which agencies rejected any?

And if some were rejected, what was the reason?  Perhaps it was something that could be fixed simply and resubmitted, but I don't know what the issue was or from where the rejection came from.

That's a big concern.  Especially with Shutterstock's recent rejection of photo releases over penmanship and correctable minutia.  I wouldn't want to left in the dark if old releases need replacement.

I dont get info on declines and which agency took what.

But for instance Eyeem also doesnt explain individual declines and you never know which partner took what.

BB has 50 000 contributors but is still a small team.

So unless you want to pay them 50%, I think we will have to live with it for now.

But they have a very active facebook group, many people ask for advice there.

I am not suggesting they are perfect, I just believe they are a very valuable addition to the market and that they have built in sharing tools is a great idea.

Otherwise, just ignore and upload directly  or go exclusive with pond5.

I like the revenue share (for co-productions) function.  Is there a payout minimum?

The revenue sharing is the only reason I'd use BB. I wish agencies did this themselves.

And no, I got a $4.66 payout from them once.

+1 revenue sharing is great, I'm using BB when I film stuff with friends and colleagues to make it fair for everybody. I'm also using it to do metadata for others when I'm in between shoots. I definitely see BB as an additional agency with good returns, and I keep my own work on my personal portfolios.

I can't answer the tax questions, BB gets a higher % than you on your own and passes that along to you so you get more per sale on ShuttterStock
Here's an answer about your affirmation from shutterstock (received today):
"Hi,
Please be informed that earnings for all Shutterstock account is same. Earnings of contents completely depends up to the license and subscription that was used for each download, and your earnings tier."

Like it or not you earn more on BB through SS then you do on SS alone they are just not sharing that! Feel free to ask others as well.

+1.

And it feels good to be part of a community that has something to say and some weight against agencies trying to shaft us. Agencies might be more open to listen to an account that has more than 1 million clips rather than listen to a few individuals with a couple thousands clips. I'm not saying that it will happen but if played carefully, this could help slow down the race to the bottom for videos.

Also, many BB contributors are also buyers, and are encouraged to look for clips within the BB portfolio first in order to support the community... which technically leads to more sales  8)

By far, they come in number 1 position when it comes to caring about contributors, even if they're not really an agency.

How you earn more if commissions are fixed and you pay additional 15%? How much exactly you receive for hd and for 4K?

Well i'm also suspicious about the claim that they are getting more, but even telling some numbers won't really make justice in this question, as video commisions are all over the place at SS anyways. In my experience a HD sale can yield anything from 1.5 USD to 140. Maybe most of them seem to be in the 18-25 range with all kind off different numbers but really it seems to me that it can be anything

And Shutterstock doesn't even show if a sale was HD or 4K. I just know that i've had commissions over 100USD even for clips that are not available in 4k

I know someone who negotiated 40% at SS.  So I do believe SS offers higher commission rates under certain conditions.

If I had known this was an option (and I had a good library to negotiate with), I would have tried to get more than the standard 30%.

Oh well.

Nice video.

I have 2 questions about blackbox , they said "We deal with Shutterstock, Adobe Stock, Pond5, Storyblocks and VimeoStock."

What happens if my videos are already on SS, AS, P5?
What is the advantage of registering with BB?

thanks

Yes they have a different contract with them.

The business model Is probably good at the moment but noone can be sure that this kind of contract will be alive forever...
For this reason I say "no thanks" to BB.
In couple of years It could happen to see royalties going down and down without any chance to opt out.

Finally: it's rare but It happens to receive an exclusive request. I got one few months ago, I was payed near to 1k for eight months exclusivity. And I could not sign the contract without having full control of my production.
Just Do your choice

bb only takes exclusive content and they prefer new work, not files deactivated elsewhere.

I just treat them as an additional agency.

You can read more about them in their facebook group, they have lots of faqs.

For 4K you receive around 54$ at shutterstock.
For hd/4K you can receive from 1,5$ and up to 300$
Bb is for newbies that dont want to bother themselves.
If you work professionally you wouldnt pay someone additional 15% and you want control. Thats all.

I would not call it exclusive. You can not duplicate files on other sites, you are free to say upload to Getty if you wish as they do not submit to them.

Hi John, does black box still submit to storyblocks? If so how much do you get for a download as it's now a members sub site?

That's fortunate!

Thanks for sharing the video, very interesting... I upload to Pond 5, SS and Adobe. To me adobe is the most friendly to upload and use, and in the beginning (I started on micro video ending 2017) Adobe was better than SS, whit a rate of 200 $ at month (a bit more a bit less) but since 7 or 8 months Adobe has decrease a lot my sales, today is dificult to make more to 100, when the number of files uploaded has been increased (2.000 clips today)... I dont know why, maybe the Fotalia ending, who knows...

Adobe has gone down in sales for me as well, It may have to do with Fotolia closing. They were really strong for me in the beginning of the year, hope they pick back up as they are a great agency to work with.

I can't speak as to why sales are lower for you now, but Stock sales has far exceeded Fotolia for some time.  Trust me - I have watched it for a few years.  ;)

If I look at things in the long run it's not really a recent decrease for me, more like there was an exceptional bump in sales in the first half of 2019. My recent sales are not matching that, but are in line with some slow long term growth.

Could date first half of 2019 bump be some Fotolia users using up dormant credits after seeing that the site will close?

Decrease is very noticeable, something happened in June and never recovered...
