Title: My images on Getty although I am not "with" Getty
Post by: chrisdorney on June 18, 2015, 19:28
Hi,
I have been a microstock photographer for some years now and I have occasionally come across some of my images on Getty.  For example:
http://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/photo/eiffel-tower-in-paris-royalty-free-image/511436671 (http://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/photo/eiffel-tower-in-paris-royalty-free-image/511436671)

http://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/photo/st-pauls-cathedral-in-london-royalty-free-image/177734143 (http://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/photo/st-pauls-cathedral-in-london-royalty-free-image/177734143)

etc etc etc etc...

However, I have never ever tried to join Getty in the first place....but I am with istock and know that they are somewhat linked with Getty.  I am therefore assuming that istock have been putting my images onto Getty too - am I correct in assuming this??...

..and this leads me onto another question - I thought that Getty only sold images that were exclusive to them?  However, I have never submitted exclusive images to any stock agency.  Can anybody shine any light on this?

Thanks very much in advance!

Chris.

Only some buyers can see those images, it's called Getty Plus and you get paid through the partner program.  All images on iStock are available to a select group of buyers.

Did you click on the pages there? If so, you'd have seen the message:
"Sorry, we are not able to license media #511436671 due to country, company and/or publication restrictions."
All iStock pics are available to a subset of Getty contributors under the Getty Plus (previously Getty 360) scheme.
If you are not a G+ buyer you see the 'not able to license' message.
Why they don't have a link to iS where you can buy it is one of Getty's unfathomable mysteries.

If you sell a licence via G+, it could be from a few cents to decent numbers of dollars, and will show up mossy green on your stats chart, like PP. Usually PP comes in first, then image subs (grey bars) then Getty and G+.

I was searching for one of my pics online and found it on Getty with the same notice - good to find out what the deal is. Thanks Sue!  8)
Guess they don't send you to iStock if they're charging more on Getty.

Yeah, but if someone sees it on Getty and can't buy it, they get nothing.
Also, some G+ sales can be less than you'd get on iS - my best was $50, my worst were 2x35c. (That was getting a shocking 20%; indies get an appalling 15%)
