Post by: oxman on November 02, 2010, 17:24
Anyone know where to purchase these miniature figurines?

Been searching for hours with no luck.

Thanks

You probably need to make them yourself or find something antique, anything new and made by someone else will still be protected I would guess.

They look like the kind of people you can buy for miniature train sets at a hobby store!  I think you can buy some that you can paint yourself which might be good enough for copyright purposes but you'd probably want to check with individual agencies.

I would look up model railroad hobby supply websites like these:

You should be especially careful not to purchase Preiser figures if you're intending to use them for RF image. Preiser (often sold by model railway suppliers) enjoy rights protection and are not accepted at iStock (I don't know about the other sites, but even if other places accepted them I wouldn't upload them without expecting to get a deactivation somewhere down the line.)

Under a minute, but I knew the name of the hobby supply place that was once the biggest mail order and is now big on the web.

Good Luck. You may find some that are MIJ and have no protection. People, dogs, cars, passengers, workers, everything you could possibly want.

I really don't think there is need to have release or so.. there are tons of pictures with these kind of objects, cannot believe they are all antique stuff.. I wonder the same also regarding antique wooden letter and such.. maybe they haven't got registered trademarks yet..

Not sure how many model railroaders are here, but if you do wind up buying those, just remember that the HO scale ones are larger than the N scale ones.  And sometimes the quality of the paint job on pre-painted ones is a little bit off.  Some come unpainted, which means more work.  I've been known to do a little bit of N-scale train modeling, and those little tiny figures can be tricky to get painted correctly.

So you have a "brush" with one hair for painting them? LOL :D
