Just a general Question. How often do you come up with a concept, research it and find out it hasn't been shot yet? I found 2 today and felt pretty * special. Just curious, and no, i dont want to know what it was ;D
-
what ideas did you come up with? i've probably already shot it, just haven't had time to edit & upl...

;D some money stuff. I thought about it and researched on a few sites and it wasn't covered. If it was, it was very little. I was surprised. Most of what I think of has tons already loaded.

Today, I thought about a subject to shoot. There was about 720 pics made of it (combination of 2 keywords). The first 3 pages, all images had 20 to 2000 downloads. It was a nice idea... 4 years to late
-
I've had that a lot. On these I found 1 page and the other with nothing.
-
Why bother wasting time researching if it has been done before?
-
I found one last week. Only 11 images on istock, none on the other sites. But these 11 images - all of the same photographer - were better than I would EVER be able to shoot, and his models were absolutely PERFECT. So I am humbly looking for other subjects :'(

Curiosity partly. Also, to see if there are 2,000 of that image already and should I bother.

Oh come on. You are one of the few great ones fusing art with stock/commercial. As Buddha said: "man's unhappiness lies in not wanting what he has and wanting what he hasn't. ;)
The the OP: find your niche and shoot what you like. You never can predict what buyers will like and if you look at the "populars", well, that niche is taken.

I sometimes look at the keywords used in the latest searches on Dreamstime, for inspiration. But I don't think I always understand what the buyer wants. This was the outcome of "hearts basket":

Strangely, it hasn't sold much, but I have high hopes for valentines day.

If you can shoot it better then go for it. Even with the thousands of pics of dollar bills I have one that is a little unique that does well.

I discovered that a search for:
"An Indian flying a helicopter upside down while eating a banana"
has very few images. Oh crap... i told you folks!!! nevermind!!!
OX
...back to the search field :(

There are certain things I like better. My one non- niche is no people. They make me crazy.

Congrats on finding new concepts!
If I come up with a concept idea, I don't usually research it to see if it's been shot. I don't want to be influenced by existing images. That way, whether or not the concept exists, at least my take on it will be original.

Thanks. I think I'm doing the research and stuff now because I'm still new and still seeing what's already out there.
