Hey all!

I'm so glad I've found this forum today! I was wondering if you guys can help?

We are a new startup, selling bite size motion graphics templates and resources for designers and animators. - newbielink:http://www.motionstacks.com [nonactive]
I come from a background of freelance motion design, and I (alongside my brother) created the site from a need to find bitesize After Effects resources rather than the more common packs of effects or presets. We also generate all the content ourselves with the view that we can directly respond to the market needs with features like "make a request" on our site.

I sincerely hope we can grow into something special, and empower designers worldwide to create rather than provide templates for those who don't wish to design.

As we are in the early stages, we'd love to hear some honest opinions about what we do, what we can improve, what you'd like to see from us etc.

Also as a side note, we are very keen to grow our team of freelance designers, so if anyone is interested in please email us at newbielink:mailto:[email protected] [nonactive]

On a personal note, I hope this post doesn't come off too "salesy", we just want some genuine feedback, so apologize if it feels like that at all.

Many many thanks in advance!

Have a great day  :)

Simon

Not too "salesy" as far as I'm concerned. Some people just turn up, posting a link about some super amazing new stock site they've happened to stumble upon, and then it turns out they're the owner of the site. A bit sneaky! So a proper, above-board introduction is always welcome.

One thing I couldn't help noticing though, and please forgive me if I'm mistaken.. but a lot of your items look very familiar. For example, some of your smoke/energy items are exactly the same as the items in this pack:

https://videohive.net/item/140-flash-fx-elements/11266469

And there's this one: https://videohive.net/item/cubic-background-clips/11470969

And this one: https://videohive.net/item/animated-elements-shapes-2/12703750

And a few others I can't quite put my finger on.

As I say, I could be wrong, but just thought I'd put that out there.

It might not be as stupid as it sounds. If this guy is the author of that '140 effects' pack on Videohive, and he was non-exclusive so he was allowed to sell it elsewhere, then it makes perfect sense. On Envato he gets the gross equivalent of $0.24 per clip, every time it sells.

After Envato get their cut, that works out to $0.17 per clip. On his own site, with no commission, he gets $1.00 per clip.

Obviously I'd never specifically create content just for $1.00 per clip minus commission, unless I knew they were going to sell hundreds of times a month... but if somebody already has an existing pack of multiple clips elsewhere, which isn't exclusive... then splitting them out into individual assets and selling them here could be a reasonable additional revenue stream. That's if the site takes off and gets a decent amount of buyers, of course.

Thanks for the constructive criticism all I really appreciate it.

1. I completely get where your coming from, a fair few of products are similar to others, this is mostly due to popular trends we are finding with in demand products. Ie. We are finding several very similar smoke or energy fx packs which all draw sinilarities between each other.
That said, we have had to remove a large chunk of products from our providers in the past where they have completely replicated others work, so I'll certainly look through the references, thanks for the help!

2. Again I completely understand the solution, let me explain our thought process as the site is very much created with the user in mind. I have worked several years as a motion designer and found it frustrating to buy big packs of resources though I may require 1 file.
The $1 price point (we hope) is the right fee for the end user, to justify the micro purchase. In terms of suppliers, though we currently have all products created on a non commission basis by a pool of freelancers we are considering a commission set up.

To make things cost effective for the authors, we expect submissions in large packs to ensure the higher cost per product could actually be more beneficial for everyone.

I hope this helps understand our approach, we really don't mean to undervalue the stock production, just provide something new and more useful to motion designers.

Thanks again for the feedback, best of luck with sales in the future

But you said: "We also generate all the content ourselves".

Ah yes, sorry, let me clarify, I mean old freelancers that have submitted content to our site. By "us" we send out briefs to a pool of designers

Could be useful for people who need only a couple of effects or small animations instead of whole packs. Still, I'd make sure to include the option to buy an effects pack.
From a buyer's perspective, I'd want some crucial file information on the detail pages, such as video resolution, video format and codec. I'd also prefer loopable animations as those are more versatile.

As a contributor, it could be worth it if you already had a big bunch of effects ready to upload. What kind of commission would you guys be asking?

Yeah, I'd look into that pretty quickly, as there's 'very similar' and then there's 'virtually identical':

I agree with you.

Thanks
