Hi everyone. I created an account for videoblocks today. I'm still confused how you get 100% ... What is the catch?
$45 for HD is AMAZING!

Many talk about this website but I never really looked into it.

Does anyone sell or make money with photos too? I guess they also sell photos for $4
Pond5 is great for video but horrible with photo sales. Is this the same for VideoBlocks?

Any important points I should know about?

Hi there!

I have no experiences with photos on Videoblocks.

I joined Videoblocks in 2016 and for a long time nothing happend, no sales.
But slowly something is going on with Videoblocks. A few sales every month since march, as you can see in the attachement.

Maybe Videoblocks will become a really good agency, we will see... I will continue uploading...

Best regards,

Martin

Hi Angela,
I have been with VB for about 2 years (2000 files) and didn't even know that they do photo.
I have never heard of anyone selling still images there, so I believe that it is like P5, practically video only

They don't have the marketplace (yet) for photos, audio, etc. It's only subscription-based so you will have to apply and get invited to sell a big amount of photos to them for a one-time fee. Then they are free to download for subscribers.

MartinD it looks like things are looking good for you this year. Congrats on all those sales and thanks for sharing.

That is good to know about photos. I see the email where my submission is pending for graphics anyway. I will just stick with video.

I was asked to submit photos a while ago but haven't gotten around to it yet.  I wouldn't do it for a one-time fee though - I'm sure it was for something similar to the video part.  Maybe I'd better read through those e-mails again.

I have heard they have gotten into photos, same deal as video with the 100% commission and I thought it was around $3 or $4 per photo being the sale price which is a heck of a lot better than the 38 cents I get from SS.

I do mostly HD video however and I have nothing but good things to say about VideoBlocks, to make good money you do need to have many thousands of clips and/or content that they don't have in their own membership collection and that they can't create and then you are in a good position.  If very similar content is in their membership pool then you probably won't make the sale.

Videoblocks has come a long way, they are tied right up there with Pond5 right now and have excellent support with a team member usually getting back to any inquiry within 12 hours.

In some threads I've read that people are skeptical, there is no reason to be skeptical, review wait times are a bit longer as I think that is due to the sheer volume of submissions right now.  Thoroughly enjoy dealing with them.

I got an email saying my photo application has been accepted and to stay tuned for the details.

I'm wondering if the $4 royalty includes extended licenses. Right now I'm opted out of SS's extended licenses. Once they lowered the commission for an EL I was very upset.

I don't understand...
What is the point of opting out of Extended Licences?

We use to get $28 for an EL but now they only give $14 sometimes. I had to take a stand. I'm not cool with that.

So, it is better to have nothing instead of $14 (sometimes)?

Yes, I value my work more than that.

Current photo licensing terms appear to be unlimited everything forever.  That seems to include print on demand merchandise items.  Hopefully they will add or clarify extended license terms soon.

This is the real point in my mind. An EL can be totally in favor of buyer and yield the seller very little in return.....just depends on the terms of the license.  I saw one of my pics in a craft store being sold as a print and post card.  I had no energy to track it down, but the moral of the story is someone else is using my image to resell, ill be it pod.
