Maybe this has been discussed before...

I have a handful of images that I hired another illustrator to create. They were never used for their intended purpose, but I do own the rights to these images.

Am I allowed to sell them as stock if I wasn't the actual creator?

If you definitely own the rights to them, then yes, you can sell them.

You actually have a contract that says there was a rights transfer?  Then yes.

This is not a problem. Africa Studio is not one person, but a conglomerate of contributors. As long as you have contractually regulated the rights of use, that's absolutely fine.

I'm with that, have a signed contract, or at the least an email saying that you have the rights and then save a record of the payment. If a model can come back after she signed a release and try to get her images removed and start a lawsuit against the photographer, who has the dated, signed and witnessed release, I wouldn't trust, anything less than a written contract and proof of payment.

And yes way back ten years ago, I did pay someone to make some illustrations for me and I uploaded them. I have yet to make my money back. So much for that brilliant idea.

Didn't Africa Studio pull their entire massive port from SSTK when the commission cuts happened and then put it back after they realized they couldn't sell anywhere else?, sounds familiar.

Make sure you have copyright transferred not just exclusive rights to usage. Most agencies need you to sign off as copyright holder.

Did they, what's your source for that claim. Are you actually Christian Lagereek back here again?   ;D  They are on Getty, DT, Adobe and SS, they have two accounts on SS.

A more accurate way of stating that might be, they had their port deactivated temporarily in protest. I thought someone did an interview about that?

Absolutely spot on advice.

So they did deactivate, I remember that name came up in the SSTK forums around the time they cut commissions.

I guess that makes sense because at 100 clips/photos per day limit it would take years to restore their collection had they deleted it.  Too bad one of the really big players can't change the industry because if they can't then it's bankruptcy for us, it's done.

The agencies don't care, literally every contributor could leave tomorrow and they still have our content on their servers and the servers of those "Global partners"  in trusted countries around the world where our laws don't apply.......and still thousands of new contributors would be lined up and would be thrilled to make 10 cents a photo and $1.70 a video because that pays more than likes on Instagram.

I think you mentioned in another thread that if people don't like the terms these agencies have then take your content elsewhere to sell it, I agree but where?.

They can't sell anywhere else but they sell the on all top agencies. What sounds familiar is you making things up.

That's twice I've heard this $1.70 for video in the past few days. Not sure where people are getting that from... the minimum is $0.25 per video.

I have a few $1.50 and $1.70 video sales in the last two month but for editorial clips, there was one 25 cent video sale for something that was branded commercial, a sunset or something.   I remember when it was around $23 per video with the few very high priced sales here and there but none of those this year for me.

They're still pretty common, just depends on the way they buy it... whether it's a direct sale or via a subscription. My average is $6.49 which is a lot lower than pre-2019, but it's better than getting $0.25 a sale I guess. Although I am getting more sales (so I guess the subscriptions are kind of doing what they were intended to do)... total revenue is about 25% higher than last year.
