Does anyone know the approx number of contributors on Fotolia? They assign you a number (Rating) thus if I am number 32,400 I wanted to see where I stand.

It isn't quite as simple as that. If for instance you are 32,400 and you share the same number of dls with a group of other people then they will all have the same ranking of 32,400.

Surely members include buyers? Find it hard to believe that there are 800 000 contributors (average 22 images per contributor). When I started at Fotolia I was on something like 35 000.

According to the letter from Shutter there are around 35,000 so I would think fotolia to have about the same? Is my logic flawed?

That sounds about right - may be more as FT has no entrance exam but probably not far off in terms of folks with actual ports.

Exactly! SS and IS will have less members because of the rather strict entrance exam to become a contributor. After that, yes, you can have 3 million members and only 35,000 have uploaded a photo, which brings things back to close.
Only other thing that will reduce the FT number and make it even closer to SS is some people have dropped some sites that screwed with the levels and commissions, so they lost those artists.
In which case, probably pretty darn even. And SS can write anything they want (or round up numbers) in a letter, the number of unique individuals contributing to their collection is very close to... 33,241.

And on the date I posted that number, it became incorrect. But that's what it was.
Also it doesn't account for people who may stop uploading and just collect whatever income they get.
It's just the people who have uploaded actively since the beginning of time. That means, it can't be higher in the future, but may very likely be lower because of people dropping out. No way to know.

Dont matter how many. FT has turned bad and sour. The agency changed the search some time back and its just terrible. Im leaving this place and slowly take my port with me.
