Title: Number of images in discussions
Post by: CD123 on January 31, 2011, 15:14
In a lot of the posts there are reference to the number of images/photos a person has. Does this generally refer to unique images, or the total of images (even similar ones) on all the websites the person upload to? (I am obviously not referring to exclusive images or contributors)

Unique images. There's no point in counting the same image over and over again.

Or maybe different for different people :)

Tend to agree with you, else the person with 100 images on 30 sites claims to have the same exposure and repertoire as a person with with 500 on 6.

I don't even know how many unique images I have online, because different agencies have different stuff (different rejection policy and some take editorial or RM) but there is a lot of overlap, too. So my total is maybe 40% more than my largest individual portfolio.

Yes, I guess with large portfolios it is impossible to really know. As you mentioned, if you know the site which accepts most of your submissions normally accept 80% of all, then you can add 20% to your portfolio on that site as a guess.

Just wondered about it, as there is a lot of posts mentioning peoples portfolios and was not sure how to compare to mine.  Guess best is to ask in the specific post what the person is referring to, as this seems to be open to personal interpretation.

I have different numbers on different sites, so when asked the question, I usually use the site with the highest number's total.
