Well, now that Thanksgiving is almost upon us Yanks, Christmas is right around the corner. I see that Holiday shots do very well on places like Shutterstock and I was wondering when everyone plans these types of shoots. Do you yank out the Christmas/Hanukkah decorations and such in June and upload then? Do you wait til October or November, or is already too late by then? What about other holidays? Valentine's Day, Easter, Halloween? Do you leave your holiday shots in your portfolio all year long, or do you delete them and upload new the next year?

I sent in some Christmas shots, no tree yet,  in October and sold a couple.  I would guess on the purpose of the publication.  Some start their holiday stuff a year in advance.  I plan on taking pics all through the holiday season, that way they would be available all year long.  I took some shots of shells and posted in Oct./Nov. and they are getting more views.  Maybe they are getting started on summer/beach stuff.

I have done some Christmas shots the past two weeks, now I'm editing and uploading them.  Most are still in the long queues, but a couple have already been sold.

I bought some cheap stuff for this series and I will keep them for next year, in case I have some new ideas.  I wouldn't be able to buy Christmas decoration items earlier than now, I think.  One item I'm using is from last year (I bought it for my office's decoration).

Adelaide

I sold two Easter images in the past weeks, so dbvirago must be right about this.  :)

Hmm.  Besides IS, which sites delete images after one year without selling?

I have quite a few Christmas shots from last year. They started selling well in August.
I am now looking at pictures that I took last spring to upload now. I went out into the countryside and took dozens of shots of lambs, baby cows and stuff like that. Spring stuff should start selling just before Christmas, along with Easter stuff.
The designers work a few months ahead, so we should do the same whenever we can.

Madelaide, the best time to buy Christmas items is in the January sales. They practically give them away.

This is my first Holiday season with stock photography, but that is my plan - take lots of pics this year and then upload a few each month through out the year.
