Hi frederico, I use paypal, but one time I got a check, while I was in the US. From Dreamstime I heard it takes about 2 weeks to send checks overseas.

Check with your bank how much they will charge to cash the cheque.  I have heard in some countries, the charges make it uneconomical.

Any reason why you dont want to use paypal of moneybookers?

Yah....when i get checks....i need to pay the bank 10-30% of the amt! I once had a US$150 check but in the end I had to pay US$20 or more to the bank!

Check how much it cost to cash the cheque.....paypal tend to be a better option though the exchange rate is not great

No it is just that when i signed up to the various sites i hadn't a paypal account so i decided ti be paid by check, now i was wondering if it is a good idea or not, currency conversion with paypal don't seemsto be so convenient but maybe with checks is worst, i'll check with my bank about commissions charged

Thank you for the replies

I receive only checks now after getting screwed over BIG time by paypal - as a result I will not use any of the online payment systems - I am having to now sue paypal to get my own money from them!!Very frustrating and not at all what I want to do but ... anyway I live in Hong Kong and have no problems depositing checks into my account - I am charged a US$10 fee and it takes weeks to clear but it is safer IMHO - I usually don't bother having a payout though till it's at lkeast $1,000 ... But do be careful of paypal - they will rob you blind given the chance!!

I've never had a bad experience with paypal but I never trust an unregulated money system. Since paypal isn't a member if the FIDC or even regulated by any banking establishment I try to stay away from them. The checks normally arrive here in 1-2 weeks from IS. Since banks here in the US don't charge to take checks I have no problem with waiting for checks.

To those in a country where they charge a large portion of your check in order to take it, I would change banks or even move to a free-market country.

Well visa/mastercard do have a way but no one has used it in microstock yet. They're reloadable gift credit cards that you can get at most walgreens and other stores. They charge you $10 when you load the card though.

Everything considered, Moneybookers seem to be the best choice for very many outside USA. They are very safe, their charges are minimal, and they work much more similar to a normal bank if compared to PayPal. There are some horror-stories around PayPal, and although it only affects a few, most of them seem to be real.

I've used Moneybookers for a year now, simply because there are too many problems using PayPal where I live (Thailand). They are officially supported here, but that's only officially.

It's like the never ending PC vs. Mac discussion. One has all the bells and whistles, the other one just works. For me at least.

Everyone complains about Paypals conversion rate.  it is really that bad?  Or are they just takin a standard percentage much like mastercard and visa.

Would I get more money if I used Moneybookers?  All I use paypal for is to receive money from the agencies and pay it into my bank account in full each month (the process from requesting to cleaing in my bank accoutn takes about 7working days depending on how long the sites take to pay out).
