Title: PayPal will Take $2500 for Misinformation
Post by: angelawaye on October 08, 2022, 13:24
I know this isn't stock related but many people use PayPal to receive money.
I just wanted to make sure everyone knows this can happen now.

Can't access the article but title now saying PP have pulled back from that after backlash.

Problem with these kinds of policies is if the net is cast too wide they punish users who are not or never have been providing misinformation.

Haven't been aware about that particular ToS change but nothing surprises me anymore. We seem to be living in some weird mix of Brave New World and 1984. I can safely say we're outpacing Black Mirror at this point. Most people don't seem to notice which is another proof that the boiling frog syndrome is real

Well, there was enough backlash from this that they stopped the policy change.

I'm astonished their lawyers let them even suggest it.

It would be a lawsuit looking for a place to happen.

Inspired by North Korea, Russia or China.  ;D

Probably they would be the one to judge what the truth is :)

PayPal is basically a bank at this point. If my bank took money from me because I lied on the internet, they’d get beat down hard in court. PayPal should be no different. I am freaked out by the abundance of misinformation on the internet and what that means for democracy long term, but this isn’t the answer.

I noticed months ago, said so here, and got laughed at, called names, told to get psychiatric help by someone, and the worst horror, accused of being a Trump/QAnon supporter. Which is a total joke.

Some people don’t want to hear the truth or believe that our world is on the way to dystopia. That’s ok. Sometimes I wish I didn’t know what I know, either. And I certainly hope those who know more than I are wrong. I will be happy to be wrong.

edit: see spacestockfootage’s comment. That’s just a sample. If I say something, I get laughed at. If you say the exact same thing, you get a discussion.

Funny thing is, it’s all there if you look in the right places, which is NOT mainstream media. But they’d rather laugh and make fun, than actually educate themselves.

Here’s a good example. Dr. Peter McCullough was just suspended from twitter for giving “misinformation” about rona. Top cardiologist in TX, tons of published papers, etc. Been pushing early treatments since early days of rona, trying to save people. But that Goes against the narrative. Boom. Deplatformed. I was booted out of twitter for talking about quackzine shet  ting. Even tho it’s right there in the pfizzzzer docs they tried to hide for 75 years, until they were taken to court and ordered to release them. No wonder they wanted all that info hidden.

can give many more names. But I doubt anyone here is interested. No prob.

Yes, I think they got backlash in the form of tons of people closing their accounts. They change their tune when it hits them in their pockets.

I probably have one that is considered more laughable but will mention here anyway.

Over 32 years ago I went from atheist to Christian almost overnight. One of the reasons for this was the following verse in the book of Revelation that outlines a number of events leading up to the second arrival of JC:

"And he causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might BUY or SELL, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name" (Revelation 13:16-17).

This is clearly coming into reality today, given rapidly developing and evolving digital currencies, electronic payments, microchip implants, QR Codes, social credit score systems and surveillance among other technologies enabling cashless, contactless and fully traceable transactions.

Not laughable. I’ve heard many others talk about this. I am a humanist (my definition of humanism —  looking to science, not revelation from a supernatural source, to understand the world)  so not familiar with Bible verses, but it does seem prescient.

I think I might have mentioned transhumanism in that post months ago (and got laughed at). Go read about Elon Musk’s theories on it and his experiments happening now with Neuralink.

not sure how much applies to your life changes, but it's amazing (sort of) how 'christians' can cherry pick what proves their 'belief' while ignoring evolution, climate change, slavery, human rights, and most recently the freedom of women to make their own choice about their bodies

like nostrdamus & the Sibylline oracle, revelation is particularly ripe for abuse, with apocalyptic but egregiously vague pronouncements (used over 2 millennia to confirm the advent of the last days & assorted other calamities)- sorta like the economists who have foretold 9 of the last 4 recessions! (eg  the beast hast been used to identify medieval emperors, popes, kaiser Wilhelm, Lenin, Hitler et all)

I've been reading R Crumbs wonderfully illustrated genesis - complete, word for word, no interpretations, and still amazed by the slavery, incest, murder, theft, deceit & other crimes blithely accepted because they were 'in service of the lord'.  an amusing illustration is the faces of the men hearing (at least twice) the lord's commandment requiring circumcision - worried, startled, bemused,... - basically "what - why this to define ourselves"?!?

wow ! I didn't know it.

Remarkable to read "Changes included prohibitions on “the sending, posting, or publication of any messages, content, or materials” that “promote misinformation.” Basically you can't even have different opinion from them.... that will probably be misinformation.

I wonder if Uber Eats goes for this kind of policy. With my usual complains of delay probably one day my fine will be no soup for me...

better cross my fingers ehehehe  ;D

I wish they had gone ahead. PP has been s**t from day one. They only got to where they are by being in the right place at the right time and there are much more affordable options available now. Be nice to see them go under. Free market in action!

The fine, clearly just a cash grab by an unscrupulous company. If they don’t want to play a part in spreading misinformation, by funnelling donations for lunatics or fanatics for example, they should just refuse to do business with these people by banning them using Paypal.

If it was only that, there a new groups that showed up recently that also want to control and force the control on all people about the choices on their own body limiting their human rights if they refuse which puts them in same category with religious fanatics but they will just close their eyes and try to justify that with almost the same stupid arguments religious fanatics use.

Slavery was abolished by  a Christian / religious movement?

no one's saying all christians are evil

while quakers & other abolitionists raised consciousness of slavery, slavery was not abolished by a religious movement - it was abolished by the 13th amendment, after a bloody civil war to defeat the proponents of slavery - the 13-15th amendments assured that could never happen again (or so we thought)

Assuming that you are only taking USA in consideration.

Parts of Europe abolished slavery 400+ years before that and some way more, for example in 1430 in the Republic of Ragusa slave trade became a death offense and the trials and penalties were later under direct jurisdiction of Catholic church. Also their polymath Ivan Stojković, better known as John of Ragusa in 1420 became the advisor of Martin V, the pope who first started promulgating certain bans on slave trade worldwide. Later Renaissance popes would follow in his footsteps, and enforce stricter and stricter limitations on practices of slavery.

As a sort of atheist I have no reason to speak in favor of the church but the facts are the facts and there is no doubt religion played a significant role in the early abolition.

Also...

Iceland abolished slavery in 1117.
Norway abolished slavery in 1274.
Sweden abolished slavery in 1335.
Poland abolished slavery in 1347.

Beside that, Pope Paul III outlawed the enslavement of indigenous peoples in the New World, and established basic freedom and property rights for them in 1537.

They can do business with who they like. Especially as they would be profiting off the businesses using their services. I agree that the fine idea was nuts though.

That's ultimate bull crap.  Nowhere does it encourage those filthy action in the bible in the worshiping of the lord. However its a case of those things of "you're going to hell" moments. Yes there are stories of people, nations and or pagan religions practicing such filthy acts.  So please don't insult our faith by reading the bible only once and just finding a purpose to dump your poop. Please apologise for your and every ones benefit.  >:(

And you're not "cherry picking" right now? You think you can decipher everything about the bible and Christianity just by reading it once? Nope! Like any book you have to read it more then once.
Don't believe that nonsense about not having respect for the environment and such. If you actually read the bible you'd see that they often talk about the environment and animals. How sacred they are. You just can't seem to read the details.  But being a "crack pot" that would be understandable.

Alright no one is forcing you to believe. That's your stance. But again please don't insult the lord. Or start a flame war.  >:(
Typical christaphobe  ::)

Oh really.. Many years ago I tried to start reading the bible, to know something about it at least.. I stopped as soon as it mentioned the need for brutal animal sacrifices. I dont need to read such things, it makes me physically sick. And that was only the very beginning..
