Hi MSG Folks,

While taking a photo of a coin (isolated) I noticed that the overall file size was around 2 mb thus a few MS companies rejected the submission due to being too small. I thought that the size was determined by the MP of the camera instead of the actual file size? My camera is only 16 mp but it should be good enough for most MS companies? Or do I have to do a macro of my coin and use 80% of the frame to produce files sizes of say 3mb or larger? Confused to say the least...

Thanks.

Size in Bytes is not a problem - I have many < 1MB even.  The size of the image in MP is a different matter.  A 16MP image would be reduced if you crop or resize in a photo editor, e.g. if you did some post work on the isolation & saved a smaller dimensions image.

Good point! Here is where I run into issues- DT and DP require that a lot of the white background be removed thus when I crop out the white my photo is reduced in size. They claim that the customers don't want to pay extra for the white space - go figure...

Try getting in closer and filling the frame with your subject.  Then there's no extra white to crop out.   If you don't already have one, a macro lens would help with this.  :)

what are you thinking?
Fill the frame with the subject.
and make the frame be salesworthy.

Sounds like you've got a workflow issue somewhere.  I've not heard of any micro judging on file size.  What is the pixel resolution of the rejected file?

I will check on the pixel resolution ( I think that is fine) but DT actually told me that it has to be at least 3 mp which I think they met 3 mb. When I redid one shot to make the file actually larger in MB not MP they took it and the file size was just over 3mb- go figure.

come on.
wake up.
mb doesnt matter.
look at the mpix.
pixel size.
simple as that. give the agencies what they want: 4 mpix? 6 mpix or more.
the size of the picture, then you can later on fill it up with white or black.
