iStock and Yuri announced over one year ago that PNG files would be available on their sites. iStock officially stopped this project. Yuri after proudly talked this revolutionary feature on his website simply didn't make it.
Anyone has idea why these projects were abandoned? It doesn't seem to be very complicated to add another files' format in downloads.

I'm a big supporter of the PNG format. I've loaded up most of my portfolio as PNGs at Dreamstime with their additional format option. I sell about one or two a day mostly as subs, but they might have chosen it because of the format. You never know. As a buyer, it would always be my favorite choice of formats.

does that mean you are selling them for 35/70 cents?

Sadly, yes. 70 cents. That's what happens with the subscription model. Still waiting for the motherload.

Adding the format seems to be easy, the problems lie in the quality assurance of every file being inspected for good isolation and transparency which in the large pool could be anywhere from perfect to horribly done.

For 3D renderings its a no brainier, I really cant get around the idea of not using a perfect alpha channel when its clearly available since over a decade ago at even the simplest computer user and installation.

In short, costs money to check these files and they didn't see enough financial benefit in the end compared to the adoption and use by clients.
