I guess you didn't read the agreement?

As long as they get a cut, they don't care the slightest little bit about exclusivity. The P5 "exclusive" program is exclusive in no other way than you exclusively giving them money. ;)

Haha :D

So they don't preserve custom P5 prices on AS? Hilarious.

That P5 live "Artist Town Hall" was the most hipocrytical, misleading and insincere I've ever seen in microstock. They were just straight up lying and it was so obvious.

Even Getty wasn't that fake in their exclusive pitch, not covering it with "we care about the artist the most, we are saviors of the industry bla bla bla".

Yes, I can accept the business decision to reward exclusivity with a higher percentage. That is a very rational thing to do, from a business standpoint. You are exclusive to Pond5, the business, not the customer.

But I can't stand 46 minutes of bull**** along with the artist testimonials... I mean, just be honest and straightforward. It pays off.

Trying to spin it as being exclusive to the customer is just absurd.

Did you opt into the Pond5 Partner program?

Prediction:
A year from now Pond5 exclusivity will be 50% royalty.

I'm seeing some of my non-exclusive clips on Vimeo Stock and Adobe Stock but am not seeing any of my exclusive clips in either place.

I'm not sure if I did, didn't see that option pop up when I signed up. Regardless, this exclusive program is officially a sham.

Check your Pond 5 account preferences page.  The opt in and out for the Global Partner Program and other items are there.

Not a sham....but not explained very well either. By having "exclusive" clips Pond5 is able to distribute them to partner agencies while controlling the prices. Based on what P5 told us, they have contracts with partner agencies where the partner will have to sell at/around the price YOU set for your exclusive clips on Pond5.

Also, on the occasion that a customer wants a truly exclusive license (should be a huge sale price) P5 would be able to remove those clips from the partners site. This can only work with exclusive clips that P5 can control and again depends on the contracts negotiated with partner sites.

From what I'm seeing, MANY exclusive contributors are leaving their pricing the same or even lowering their prices below industry standards. 60% royalty is nice but it will never make up for lost sales on other sites unless contributors also raise their prices. This is an opportunity for contributors and P5 to increase prices for exclusive content. If you're not going to raise your prices on your exclusive clips to above industry standards, there is no sense in having exclusive clips.

That is a lie.

And say you make a sale on Adobe with one of your P5 "Exclusive" clips. Do you still retain 60% of the royalties of the price you set, or 60% of what's leftover after Adobe or Vimeo take their cut?

Pond5 said that based on their model we should expect to get around the same or more than we would get if we had placed the clip directly with the partner. That, of course, remains to be seen as from what I can tell the exclusive footage hasn't been placed with any of the partners yet. So I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Wow that's terrible. Pond5 only looking out for themselves.

This industry still needs a main co-op run by us creatives as one of the main industry leaders if u ask me...

If you read/saw the license agreement signing up for exclusivity - yes - they said they would re-submit to adobestock & vimeostock and 'many more' in the future...

It's an interesting business arrangement for them - because they now get a cut of profits from content on other agencies (as do you, if it sells)... But you are restricted in that you can't list that content on the other 50+ video/etc agencies available, and have to wait for pond5 to do it for you...

As far as I can tell - there is not really any additional marketing of 'your' content going on other than listing on 2 other agencies, and having the word 'exclusive' on their site... I think it is a bit of a raw deal for those who signed up - but - there are some believers - so - maybe I am mistaken and their sales will skyrocket... time will tell.

If they actually did a lot of extensive marketing on your end, i.e.,
- listing on 50+ agencies on your behalf (unlikely with even the best salesmen, a 'really' good team might be able to get 10/15 of those)
- extensive marketing on platforms like google ads, bing, facebook, etc, etc - "specifically" for your clips
- other marketing methods to enhance 'exclusive' sales,

then I think it would be a fantastic deal.

BUT.
a) You've got random content from everywhere (so it may be "exclusive" in that the author agreed to sell it elsewhere, but the nature of the content is not necessarily desirably exclusive from a purchasers perspective)
b) I can't really see them doing the google/FB/bing advertising (it actually requires a lot of skill nowadays to see a good ROI, let alone 'a' ROI from those platforms because of competition)
c) and I believe the "work" they've done is simply brokering 2 deals with vimeostock & adobestock (vimeo is harder to get in at the moment), and adding the 'exclusive' watermark...

So...........

You might see a (small) overall increase in your sales on the Pond5 platform because of a higher commission (20% difference)...

BUT... long term I think you are hurting yourself, because you lose out on sales on other platforms you could submit to by yourself.

That being said - one platform that was 'in a way' successful was Envato - but:
a) They had dirt cheap clips for the longest time (I think 10+ years)
b) from the start their arrangement was pretty crappy if you were a regular contributor - so it was the 'promise' of getting most of your sales (I think it is/was @ $70,000 in sales you then get 85% of the sale price).

But envato has been a bit dishonest, in that they doubletax a number of people without tax treaties (so your net percentage is lower), and somehow have managed to get away with it for a very long time. But, they do it.

I contributed to Envato years ago but pulled out for that reason. No loss whatsoever.

Explained clearly for anybody who can read, the exclusive was so they could distribute to Adobe, Vimeostock and maybe others without duplication from our own accounts. I went exclusive because of this added exposure.

I upload to those sites too, plus Dissolve and Shutterstock. So I'm not sure how limiting yourself to 3 companies is added exposure? My SS sales beat out the other top 3 combined.
