Title: Pond5 exclusively
Post by: suz7 on May 29, 2020, 10:31
Does anyone know if you can have some clips as exclusive on Pond5 or does it have to be your whole portfolio?
And does an exclusive video get viewed more?
Shutterstock can go whistle for my videos.

Yes, You have to have a separate account for exclusive files only. What you upload that account must remain exclusive. Any other work you did not upload to the exclusive account you can upload to other sites.

I opened a second account at the time, but never filled it because I discovered BB.

But now with the SS drama, I think it will be really important to support pond5 and exclusive material is the best you can do for them.

If Shutterstock starts having 17 cent 4k video sales like on Getty, I will have to deactivate files and move them elsewhere.

Most of my videos are just on pond5 and SS, so it would be easy to make content exclusive.

I just hope they do not reactivate Hyperstock.

i have contacted their support, did you know that you can leave videos on adobestock and same videos can be exclusive to pond5?

because of adobestock and pond5 deal.

that's something we all needed to know.

Really? Is there a public announcement about this?

That would be fantastic!

I admit that I'm finding that a little hard to swallow. P5 specifically states in their FAQ that exclusive videos hosted on their site cannot be made available on other agencies. If anyone wants to find out if such a deal does exist between these two companies, I would recommend contacting both P5 and AS and asking them individually.

I think Pond 5 distributes exclusive material at Adobe.  That's different than leaving it there.

Ah, that would make more sense.

Still, it would be great to have official clarification.

only problem is possible double files.

this is copy paste from my conversation with one of support members:

me: "Sorry, but need one more clarification.

I can have exactly the same videos online on Adobestock and in pond5 exclusive account?

Thanks again"

support: "

Yes, that's right. However, I'm not sure if this will cause any duplicate issues on Adobe's end, since your exclusive content is shared with them via API. I would recommend managing this content strictly from your Pond5 account. But having shared content on both platforms is not in violation of your agreement as an exclusive artist, as long as you are enrolled in our GPP.

Kind regards"

and this is how my conversation with support started:

me:" Hi XXXX

Here is an example: I have my videos on only 3 sites, Shutterstock, AdobeStock and Pond5, if I want to be Pond5 exclusive I only need to remove videos from Shutterstock and can leave them on AdobeStock?

Did I understand it correctly?

Thank you"

support: "Hi XXXX,

Yes, that's correct! :)

As a video contributor forced to accept Pay rate 1 this makes my decision to delete all my videos from SS and move to Pond5 Exclusive very simple.

What are the advantages at o5 for exclusivity? Aside from pricing your vids is there search placement advantages, or some other value that goes with putting eggs in one basket?

I was surprised to read that there is no search placement advantages with exclusive content on Pond 5. And you can set your own pricing with both exclusive and non exclusive clips. I guess the main advantage is the higher percentage received on sales (60% versus 40%.) Exclusive clips also get special branding - basically large bold text that indicates that the clip is exclusive. They're also promoted in e-mails (and possibly other forms of advertising.)

I very much doubt that.

I had an exclusive account with P5. My clips showed up on Adobe stock because of their partnership. What do you doubt?

I have an exclusive account in P5 too. If you have files on P5 in exclusivity and anywhere else you are in breach of the exclusivity contract and they will terminate it if they find out. Another thing is that those P5 exclusive files can go to Adobe or Vimeo or where they want. It's their call and not yours. Reread your exclusivity contract again.

Hey Christian,

That person is misinformed. Adobe will automatically remove duplicate files that come from us, so it is either not possible to do this now, or there's a mistake and some duplicates got through. You may have seen the thread in our forums a while back where people found duplicates on Adobe, but we definitely worked with them to remove all duplicates. If a duplicate clip is uploaded to Adobe from Pond5, the Pond5 version gets removed.

You can take your current P5 exclusive clips, opt in to GPP, and then files get sent to Adobe perdiodically in batches as we clear them for Adobe. You then receive payouts for every sale made through Adobe and our other GPP partners, which are listed on the financials page.

I will find that contributor's ticket and reach out to them. Thanks for sharing!

Cheers,

The biggest advantage is being able to set price and get 60% of the sale. As non exclusive you get the right to choose price too which is very considerate by P5 knowing that you might set a price for 199$ when that same file can be aquired by a few quids on Shutterstock. If I would be P5 I would not allow setting free prices and allign those with competition.

But with an exclusive file the power balance is different, that file is nowhere to be found so the client pays for what you ask for or he does not get the candy.

The eggs in one basket. The problem with video is that there are not many baskets left. Basically there are 4 strong players: Getty pays peanuts (percentage wise and also in absolute terms with most of the sales), Shutterstock (was a good basket with 30% share and creative and editorial files but now with subs, lower royalties your revenues are not looking great anymore) Adobe (35% share but no editorial) and P5 (editorial and creative 40-60% of the sale and the ability to set your own prices). Secondary players are much lower in the ladder.

So once you take out of the equation Shutter and Istock/Getty only two real deep baskets to play with.

If you create unique content being able to sett your file at 199$ and get 60% is an amazing deal. Doing so with a timelapse of moving clouds, shaking hands, light flares, etc does not make so much sense as there are already similar files dimes a dozen. Video is still not that saturated as the photo market and if you create content with low competition the choose your price feature is "priceless"

What are the advantages at o5 for exclusivity? Aside from pricing your vids is there search placement advantages, or some other value that goes with putting eggs in one basket?

I also contacted Pond5 support and asked whether I may leave my video files currently with Adobe if I sign up as an exclusive contributor. Ryan’s (Pond5) answer was loud and clear:

Thanks for writing in. No, you may not have the same videos on Adobe and Pond5 exclusive. If you are exclusive to Pond5, that means that the videos can only be offered on Pond5, or through Pond5 to our partners via the Global Partner Program (GPP).

That's the way I understood it some 5 weeks ago when I pulled my clips out of AS and SS and took them exclusively to P5. Not sure how I knew that except that I read it in some of their documentation.

And since P5 "shares" them with AS, I figured I might as well skip uploading new clips to Adobe since they would end up there anyway.

I contacted customer support at Pond5, and was told that to be exclusive I must remove my portfolio from Adobe. However, they share exclusive content with Adobe through their GPP program.
I'm strongly considering doing this, but I was curious if we have any Pond5 exclusive people here and what their experience is? Thanks in advance.
