Title: Pro-Sports shots from the Stands... Can I License them?
Post by: ca2hill on February 13, 2011, 14:39
With most of the micro's accepting editorial photos, I'm going through some of my old photos and looking for some that I passed over due to people in the photos and no MR.

I have a bunch of Pro-Sports photos which I took from the stands.  ( MLB, AHL, NHL, NFL )

I always thought that you weren't allowed to sell these due to the fine print on the back of tickets, but when I look on ss or dt you'll find lots of pro-sports photos that were clearly shot from the stands.  I've tried to look into this in the past and haven't had much success in getting a definitive answer.

So does anyone know if I can sell pro-sports photos I took from the stands as fan?

I don't know if we can not generalize, but when we had the Panamerican games here, it was clearly written in the ticket that photography was allowed for personal use only. Even for editorial purposes, the photographer would need a proper authroization (and pay a fee, most likely).
