I had shutter stock ask me about the date one of my clips was filmed, while i could not remember the exact date i could give the year, has anyone else ever had this and is it me or seems strange to contact me asking this?

Never happened with me, if you have your clip on a hard drive you can see the date of creation.

I don't do video. But for images, yes, I've had inquiries. They wanted to be sure the city skyline was current (included the newest buildings), or the image related to a time period being discussed in an article. It is these types of occasional questions that now are an irritation at iStock since buyers cannot see our descriptions. I'm sure I'm losing sales of images shot in Ohio that need to be used in Ohio related uses.

I don't do video, but I have had SS contact me to ask for details on an image - typically to know exactly where it was taken. It's been done when the buyer wanted to know. I had one enterprising buyer find me via e-mail (my real name is used in my SS portfolio) to ask the same question that SS support had asked. Perhaps they were concerned SS was making up answers :)

I can only guess as to why the date might matter to a buyer, but give them what you can easily find and ask if that will do - a year might be all they need.

To me, that seems like a perfectly normal request.

As I include the date (at least month/year) on most of my stock I've never had to provide it to a customer.

What's way more strange to me are people who post pictures/footage of a city with the caption "big city". Not even a hint of where in the world it is, or when it was taken...

To be honest I don't put dates on RF cityscapes and the like...good tip I will in the future
